Hi all, I just joined and have some questions about my Chronograph. After looking at many examples on the forum, I am a bit confused. My Breitling differs in several areas from those pictured. This watch was purchased new by my father in the late 40's, and has been in the family ever since, so I am reasonably sure of it's provenance. The differences that I have noticed on the dial are: 1. Breitling and Chronograph are the only labels on the face. 2. Missing the patent number. 3. Missing the red arrow by the 5. 4. Missing the 3 minute divisions on the small minute dial. So, my question is, are these details found on others of this age, or is this a rarity? The SN on the back of the case is 5958xx, indicating a1945 build. Any thoughts? |

If you are not familiar with the process, I would have a watchmaker open it and ask him to show you how as well. It’s easy but if your not careful you can damage your watch. |

Also, inside of the case back is written with a vibrating ingraver "ELWEB TRADING CO. SWISS" followed by several other marks scratched into the back at different times: T7472 C10.58. T27789C.5.62 12/69 STEM 21860F (underlined with E below) Would it be correct to assume that these are signatures of those who have worked on the movement at various times.? John |

Pictures are always helpful. Sounds like you’ve got watchmakers repair marks, but the Elweb thing sounds odd. |

Movement looks like a Venus 150 or 175 family. The cock import code (WOG) is correct for Breitling, the bridge stamp also looks like a Breitling stamp but not sure if it fits with the (refinished) dial and doesn't sound like the case (or at least the case back) belongs. You are also missing the slide rule bezel that goes with the dial. This usually sits in the bezel ring that the glass fits in but your picture shows an incorrect glass bezel. It looks like your movement has been matched with an incomplete dial and put in the wrong case. A touch on the franken side I believe. |
