I'm afraid I'm in hook line and sinker on vintage Breitlings, and I have all of you people to blame! What a fabulous world.
As with many, my aviation background took me straight to the Navitimer years ago but I have found that I have an unnatural draw to the '69 - '75 Top Times and Datoras, specifically the cushion and square cases. My questions are:
Is there some reason for the the lower prices on the square or cushion case designs? (On aggregate. I recognize that there are spectacular examples $4k+) My speculation is that the style is just a little to funky for most.
But my main questions is: Why is it that the Datora seems to price out significantly less than the Top Time? Were production runs significantly higher on Datora?
The two examples that are currently indicative of this on Chrono24 are:
Top Time

https://www.chrono24.com/breitling/dato ... 439754.htmFrom what I can tell, both of these examples are in very similar condition (original hands, patina seems to match up, not polished, etc.) yet a price that is double on the Top Time. I understand that this isn't a complete population sample, but it seems to be a common thread with the Datoras and Chrono-Matics being priced significantly less in many circumstances.
