I was wondering if there are gents here owning a Datora 239 24 that would like to share pictures.

Mine was bought a long time from United States. It has a refinished dial and a polished back case. Everything else remains in original condition (hands, calendar, movement, crown). Unfortunately, i can't find older pictures so i will add those available, but i remember it was mentioned here at least once in the past.

Recently, a self declared Breitling collector, contacted me saying that the Ref. 239 24 never existed. However, i think different but i said a second opinion would not hurt. I have found various mentions during my research about this ref. and at least another specimen available for sale.

Here is the link to the other Datora 239 24 offered for sale:

Odd, this watch is for sale on eBay. Strange that you would post this while selling your watch. I'm sure others will comment on its authenticy, I'd just say that that site you refer to is absolute bunk, run by the most notorious faker/charlatán and nothing there should be assumed to be real.

Thank you for the follow up.
Yes, i have advised the watch for sale for a while and this is how i have got the message in the first place so this is why i have posted here, trying to clear the authenticity issue.
Generally, i do not take everything on internet as 100% correct and irrefutable but since the two watches match especially to the back case fonts and serial, movement color, markings, dial and hands, i said i should mention it for comparison reasons.
To my eye, this can't be a fantasy watch, however your advise is greatly appreciated, especially since i wish to avoid awkward situations.

As per my description, you can see a different year estimation. Besides the vintage serial database known (the Datora falls into the chronographs series if i'm not wrong), i remember i once owned an Eterna with an identical movement, that came with a certificate saying the Venus 206 was only manufactured in 1952.

Vintage ads or other 239 24 owners could put a bit of light in this.

well, I rarely comment on nor collect the non-chronograph Datora, as they aren't well documented and very, very often faked - but xxx/24 stands for manual winds without full calendar, 239/24 is neither listed in Richter nor catalogs nor any advertisement I have seen.

The dial on this piece is clearly refinished, which, of course, adds another layer of doubt.

So: on the fence, as I have no definite proof this is fake and not only a refinish, too little relevant experience, but heavily leaning towards fake.

reason for edit: typos, like always ....

Interesting. This thread is rather more relevant than the link provided by OP (which simply undermines any similar piece) - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=51133

As can be seen from that there is no consensus and a different case back layout. Would not surprise me to find d the reference relating to another brand, the movement marking on this piece is far from convincing for me, and 'redial' is being kind to what has been done to it. My gut reaction to the piece I referenced above was that it was OK, my gut today is that I wouldn't go near this and would caution anyone else to avoid it.

let me add that if the watch were a Breitling, which I highly doubt, it would be a 1956, not a 1952 - this clearly isn't a chronograph ;)

won't comment too much on the rest of your sales text hyperbole, but calling it "important" would be quite ridiculous even if it were authentic.

If it helps, i have added better pictures with mine:

If it helps in any way, i bought mine on Jun 2013, from this ebay seller: http://www.ebay.com/sch/watchesjewelry08/m.html?item=400512809090&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562

IMHO, the other one mentioned here is ca. 1951.
To my knowledge, the old script "Breitling" was used till September 1951, while the "B" BREITLING in bold letters, after that.
Indeed the Chronographs and Non-Chronographs serial database are different. But the Datora seems to share the same chronology with the Chronographs (probably because of the Datora-Chronographs, but just a supposition).
As i said, my argument remains an Eterna certificate, saying that Venus (small update) was only made UNTIL, not JUST as stated previously 1952. The ref. also fits the year, so does the serial.

I am still puzzled by the little information found on vintage Breitlings but i highly appreciate all your efforts.
