Post subject:  Dad's Old Breitling....What style is it?

I was cleaning out some of Dad's old stuff and came across his Breitling watch. I'm guessing it is from the 70's or early 80's when flew general aviation airplanes. Can anyone tell me the model, style, year etc.........??? It works great but also has a Spiedel band on it.

Thanks in advance.

It's from 1972 - I can't quite read the three digit model number on the back, it's a Datora style watch although doesn't carry that name, and they generally have four digit model numbers.

Numbers on the back:
592
1 393 332

Thanks for the quick reply. Any idea how much it may be worth?

OK, 592 is generally recognised as a Datora, even though it doesn't carry the name. Movement will be a Valjoux 7734. The watch isn't going to be immensely valuable, and I am assuming that it hasn't been serviced recently so that has to be factored in.

Maybe $800 or so.

Yes, I'm sure it hasn't been serviced in 20-25 years. I called Breitling and they said the average service cost would be around $500-800 for that model. If I had it serviced and I had authentication paperwork with it what would be your best guess for it's new value?

Lastly, where would recommend selling it?

Thanks Again.

Well I wouldn't recommend Breitling service for this - it's not worth it - you'll never get your money back. PM chronodeco (Craig), he restores and services pieces, is highly recommended and very reasonably priced.

Serviced you may get closer to $1,000 for the watch, but it's a tough economy for these right now. There is a Buy / Sell / Trade section here, and also on TimeZone.com and WatchuSeek.com, but for maximum exposure eBay is likely your best bet as these are fairly specialist appeal.
