I speak French ...

I use an online translator to write you, sorry for the mistakes ;-)

I have a 799 Datora breitling moon phase

I bought this watch an old lady, this watch belonged to her husband, he is the first owner

my job is repairing a watch, this watch has been maintained by a single repairman, my former boss ...

the first repair date is 08/1956

As you can see from the pictures, the size is not signed breitling, or the bottom ...

I'd like to have your opinion on this watch

Counterfeiting already has the time?

thank you for your help :-)

Not sure about the hour and minute hands but the ref 799 is listed in Richter's book. The movement is a Venus 187 and the description for the 799 says "Hand wound, round case, square buttons, 30 minute and 12 hour counters, small date ring. Couldn't find another picture. Can't make out the six digit serial number on the back of the watch.

Watch looks real to me.

The hour and minute hands should be a slightly different style and blued the same as the subdial hands and the 6 o'clock subdial hand should be the same style as 3 and 9, not the same style as 12.

Tough to tell originality of the movement from the picture, and as Paul says the serial is unreadable - 688xxx maybe??? That would be 1946. Also not sure what the other numbers on the caseback are, but nothing screams fake to me.

Hope Google can translate that for you and.....

Bienvenue a BreitlingSource.

Pictures courtesy of Michael's site. Looks like we might be correct about the hands but the rest looks fine.

You know looking at those pics closely, it might be the same watch.

Don't think so - but certainly close serials. 5th digit of the serial in OPs doesn't look like a 7.

I'm assuming that 2nd and 4th sets of numbers are patent or similar - like 217012 so they would be the same anyway.

Year could be 1946 or 1947 - it falls into the gap between the end of documented 1946s and before documented 1947s.

The bridge not being marked as Breitling is OK for this era, in fact you could argue that it's a good thing as the fakers invariably put Breitling on there. With the provenance that you have I think the watch is fine with the exception of the hands - even the crown looks correct.

Very nice watch!

is the same as the site breitlinlounge, except that the inscription "breitling Datora" is located between the hands and dial with date.

Michael i-am-spamming! home tell me that my watch is 100% authentic and it is very rare and very expensive

I am wary of expertise in i-am-spamming! because the site is primarily commercial

why the original catalog does not show the 799 with moon phase, why the bridge is not signed, nor the bottom of the case?

We are familiar with Michael annd his sites. His opinions on value are not always universally shared, although this is certainly a desirable watch.

The caseback and movement being unsigned are not unusual for this time period - Breitling were inconsistent about signing these elements in the 1940s - no reason for concern.

thank you very much for your answers

I'd like to find what really is an official document that proves that the model 799 was also produced with moon phase

I'll dig through my material and see what I have, although documentation from this era isn't great.

Post subject:  Honestly,

I have a difficult time reconciling a moonphase 799 from 1946 that doesn't match the calendar 799 that appears in the 1946 catalog. To my knowledge, Breitling model numbers stay fairly true in basic design feature, with the eventual appearance of rotating bezels on some models (maybe just the 765s, but I'll think some more).

I did a google of "moonphase 57875" and was surprised to find a few examples, but each with a different dial, more or less.
