I recently came across what I believe to be a very good deal on a vintage Breitling from a Jeweler that I have purchased several vintage watches from in the past. I have not had a lot of success finding info on this watch and was hoping that you all could help me out. It is in serious need of a restoration, just curious what I should know before beginning. Here's the link to the sale on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... K:MEWNX:IT I had expected to pay more than I did but I won't complain ![]() Thanks, Daniel |

Serial dates it to 1958, model looks broadly correct for a 2924, but without my references I'm not sure whether the movement is correct. For a waterproof watch the caseback looks OK. The dial is wrong - it's been redialled, the hands are broadly correct, but the lume has been added (and not very well - look at the hour hand). If you could find an original dial then I think you have a good deal (assuming the movement is correct). Sorry, can't do much more from memory on these as the non chronos are not my area of expertise. |

Actually my reference dates it to 1960. The dial looks like an older redo. I don't like the hands having lume although the shape is correct. Just don't remember seeing any with lume but that might have been added when the dial was redone. Not an expensive watch and I think better examples do come up regularly. I wouldn't spend much more than it's at now. Paul |

Thanks for the info, would you recommend a replacement dial and hands? |

That's up to you. Financially it's not worth it, but if you want to restore the watch to original condition then you might be able to find a dial. However, any dial that you find is likely to be part of another watch and so that watch will probably be your better bet. |

okay then, financially speaking should I just get it cleaned up and tuned and keep it as it is? Or should I just resell this one and look for something better? When I saw it, I couldn't pass up a Breitling for so cheap but now I realize that it was correctly priced... |

If you like the watch for what it is then by all means spend $200 - $300 for a clean and service. If you are looking specifically for a Breitling then you'll likely be happier with another option. |

thanks for the advice, I think that I will indeed resell this and look for a better option. |

Good idea and post potential buys here next time and we will help you out. Here is a new fake just listed on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/1940s-BREITLING-UP- ... 2ea969c79b They did even replate the shaved chrono bridge before they restamped it in script that is too small and incorrectly positioned! Cool looking dial even as a redo. This one will sell for big bucks so ebay can get their cut. Craig |

Craig I would have never guessed that watch was a fake, I will indeed run all my purchases by you lot from this point forward. |
