Picked this up a couple of months ago and just got it back from a service.
Had a chance to take a few snaps yesterday.

It's become my daily wearer.

I believe this dial configuration was only on the Navi's sold through AOPA to
members. Anyone have any info on this?

I think there were a couple of different AOPA dial versions depending on which Generation Navitimer you have. I'd like some more pics of that box. Here's a great site for Nav info if you haven't been there yet.

It's the classic 806 Navitimer layout. Initially they were AOPA only, but there are a lot that are not AOPA branded, and as Paul says there are some variations.

This has all the hallmarks of a transition piece from say 59 - 62 - early hands and all black sliderule that are holdowvers from the first generation, but second generation white subs. If you have a serial number we can date it exactly.

In addition to the link that Paul provided you can also look here - http://forums.watchuseek.com/showthread.php?t=25057

Thanks.

It's date slightly later, 1964, serial no. 995xxx.

As far as I've seen it's pretty unusual with no Breitling name on it and gold
AOPA wings. It looks like the same model featured in the AOPA brochure
that's in the Watchuseek article and I wondered if it was a special dial config
that they sold to the society exclusively?

Here's a sideview of it.

I'll post the display box in a new heading.

Here's another interesting Navitimer article.

If it's '64 then it likely had a sliderule with red on it originally - never seen an original all black one that late. No big deal to have a replacement - happened during servicing all the time.

Every version I've seen with only gold AOPA wings on it has no red on the subdials.
Kurt's site shows two versions one from 63 and one from 65.

The main dial also doesn't have any red on it and I thought that we would have expected the sliderule
to match the main dial, with either both having red or neither?

The 63 may be original, the 65 isn't.

There is no consistency to the red - I have seen outer red and inner black, inner red and outer black, and both red. It's an age thing, nothing to do with the logo.
