So I'm cruising on ebay and out of curiosity after reading about the whole history of the caliber 11 and 12 development, I type in "heuer" to find out prices for vintage pieces and I've noticed that vintage Heuers with caliber 11 and 12 movements on average run for more (just a tad) than vintage Breitlings with the same caliber movement...

why is that? :?

(Just my Breitling pride kicking in right now  )

Simple popularity I guess - Heuer's of this period are very collectable.

Simply because vintage Heuers has a very strong collector community. And most recent Tag Heuers are not popular among the Heuer fans.

With Breitling, it seems to me that the strongest interest is among the collectors of newer watches. The interest for vintage Breitlings are not that strong..

Just look at this very forum...... 3757 posts in modern Breitling forum, and 443 posts in vintage...

It's a pity, I love vintage Breitlings....and Heuers :P

Just my 2 cents.

cheers

Does that mean I start looking for a vintage Heuer in my collection?

I love all vintage... I just started off with Breitling just because... but I don't know why I always have this guilty feeling gnawing at the back of my head whenever I start to look for a vintage other than Breitling... perhaps brand loyalty? or perhaps it's because of lack of knowledge and advice for other brands?

I'll have to admit though.. the Steve McQueen Monaco looks very choice :D I wouldn't mind one of those in my collection...

Stick to Breitling - trust me on this, if you start looking beyond a certain brand then it can get very expensive, very quickly - I know of what I speak
