Well let's start by being thankful that you weren't born in 1952! It is 1955, very late in the year - only about 200 before the end of the year's serials. The BOW code is a nice touch, rarer than the more usual WOG, although we have to take the seller's word for it as the movement photos are horrible. It looks right, but I would want to see some close ups, especially of the bridge. Everything looks good on the dial, but again, photos aren't great so you can't tell too much on the 3 o'clock subdial hand. CLearly it needs a good clean, the hands are very tarnished and the dial isn't far behind. The caseback looks good, but maybe in worryingly good condition relative to the rest of the watch, and again a better photo of the serial would be nice. I think it's correct, just wary of the bad photos, but assuming that it is, we are starting to get to dangerous territory with pricing because these early ones have a tendency to run away sometimes. If it were my money, in this economy, I'd be hoping to get it for less than $4,000, but with the personal connection, then I would accept that it might go higher - $4,500 is possible, and if you get some determined buyers........ |

Well here is an interesting tidbit. I just got my Navitimer out to see how it compares to this one. Upon checking the serial number I found mine is very close to this one. In fact the serial number is 868580. If I read his serial properly it is 868571. Mine is in the gold plated case. The balance cock is marked WOG. It makes one wonder about continuity during a production run. |

I am sure you are right. A couple of years ago, I purchased an EAA (experimental aircraft association) Aerospace LE at Oshkosh. As I was only interested in certain serial numbers I paid attention to what they had on any given day. OK so I bugged them for a week. They were shipped in no particular order I could determine. Fortunately they got the number I wanted before the show ended. |

And I assume from that post that it didn't go to you. I'm not hugely surprised, but it's too much for a watch that still needs some money spent on it. This economy really seems to be splitting the 806s - 'standard' 60s ones are softening, but these early ones are still to inflated to my mind. These prices just aren't sustainable (but I've been saying that for 2 or 3 years now). |
