I just bought an espresso machine and a good grinder - waiting for it to show up. Figured there had to be a couple of people with watches that like coffee. So gimme the low down on what you got, like and what I need to start doing. Hopefully a tad cheaper hobby.

I love my espresso, I drink 4 shots on ice every morning from Starbucks, I do not have an espresso machine but do have a Kuerig coffee machine and a verismo machine that Starbucks sells that you put espresso pods in. Enjoy your machine, it is definately a lot cheaper than watch collecting.

Home Espresso machines are really popular here in Australia. I don't know anyone these days who doesn't have one. Mine is just a middle of the road Gaggia Classic with a higher end grinder.

Not sure about cheaper than watches......

Currently have a built in machine (AEG) in the kitchen, but on the island we'll probably be getting a Jura Z9 - so many good coffee beans down there for virtually no money so don't mind splurging on the machine.

I hand grind and use a Lamborghini coffee machine. I'm stupidly proud of it... One of 100 made. :)

Saeco Royale. Had it for about 12 years. Portable, so can be moved around depending on where in the house we are entertaining. Built in frother and 2 Boilers. Grinds nicely with splayed knurling wheels. Only issues to date was one of the boilers went to heaven about year 7. First class Italian pumps too. Fantastic for my regular brew.

Tomorrow will be a month with my Gaggia classic and Baratza Vario grinder. Funny that I spent more on the grinder than the coffee machine itself, but happy I did. Making killer espresso right now. Miles ahead of most "coffee shops", more like my fond memories of Italy. Very happy with the purchase, learning experience and end results. Don't quite have perfect milk frothing yet...but I don't do too many milk drinks anyway. Putting away 3-4 double shots a day. :cheer:

I'm glad I got a semi-automatic. I like the hands on aspect. IMHO, much better than pressing a button.
