Hi

Anyone been following, or even been to any events at, the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow?

We live on the outskirts of Glasgow and went to watch some Badminton last Monday, at the Commonwealth Arena. We were a bit doubtful before going (didn't know whether to go or not despite having bought tickets) but spent the day in town and had a great time.

I'm not Scottish but have lived in Scotland since 1979. That said I felt really proud to live in Glasgow and am really chuffed that Scotland did so well in the games. Even more pleased, of course, that England topped the tables with a record haul!

We even found ourselves on the TV during the session - good job I didn't call in sick to take the day off!

The time difference made it a bit harder to get into it here in Australia. I think it's probably been the most low- key games i can ever recall in terms of interest here. That may also have something to do with the fact that we haven't topped the medal count!

It's been a virtual non event in Canada. Combination of perceived 'second tier' games with a lot of sports that aren't big in Canada. No live events on TV just nightly summary shows on the national broadcaster, and those outside of core primetime as well.

That's a shame as Canada did pretty well on the medal count.

Yes that's a shame.......I heard from family in Toronto that it wasn't really on much - as a major part of the Commonwealth Family I thought it would have been featured a bit more. Same for Australia and New Zealand I guess and it seemed that some of the scheduling was to suit other audiences.

Oh well - it was great for Glasgow :cheer: and has given the city a bit of a boost.

It seems like Glasgow is a resurgent city over the past decade or so. Lots of investment etc: it's exciting.

I caught some of the highlights in the evening but it wasn't big in the US; shocking considering they weren't in the games  It didn't seem to be as big as usual which was surprising, and Bolt's comments didn't help, but I still enjoyed watching all that I could.
