Hi all, my phone contract runs out in a coupe of weeks and I'm pondering which smart phone to go for. I've had 3 iphones in succession and whilst they have served me well I am thinking about a change but to what? My trips to carphone warehouse have not helped and I just wonder if you guys have some recommendations based on your own experience. My priorities are as follows:

Ease of use and navigation
Good build quality
Legible screen
Preferably not too big
Good network & data performance

Mainly, I use the phone for it's intended purpose as well as using the internet for e-mails and web browsing. I don't often use the phone as an music player but would prefer to have the facility to do so, ideally via Bluetooth through my car system.

iPhone. Preferably the newer model, but iPhone hands down. I've owned Samsung and HTCs and nothing compares to IOS. The Android operating system is buggy and glitchy, I've never had problems with my iPhone. Trust me, you will not regret it

I have to agree. I recently switched from another fruit-based smartphone brand and the difference is incredible. Yes it's expensive, but worth it IMHO.

I've phones themselves aren't bad, but they are getting bigger, thinner doesn't matter when your phone is the size of a tablet. Still can't compare with the iPhone, it's just the way it is.

Thanks guys, just what I expected I guess. My 4s has served me well, just have to bite the bullet and go for the 5s, don't fancy the juicy coloured ones.

Back in crazier days there used to be some pitched battles here between iphone and Galaxy version-whatever supporters .

My family has a little of everything. For ease of use as a smartphone (photos, net, probably music) I suspect the iphone is and remains best. For navigation (with a motor vehicle) I still prefer Android, it outperforms the Apples in our family. Iphones are probably a little smoother operation and definitely more idiot-proof, and we all have those days. Music, iphone is slick but I'm starting to regret the proprietary nature of itunes. As a telephone, I think its more the maker than the OS, but that is my priority. I have a Motorola Droid Maxx for that reason. To me, far and away the best telephone, not as good on other counts, but also crazy battery life.

lets just repeat your requirements:
Ease of use and navigation
Good build quality
Legible screen
Preferably not too big

5s, no doubt.

I'd check to see when the Iphone 6 is expected to come out. The guy at the Verizon store told me in June but I don't know how reliable he is. I know there are usually tons of websites with the latest rumors.

I have the 5S and I love it, just wish the battery life was a little better.

I wish Nokia had developed a successor to its N900... Alas, I now own an Galaxy Note 2. I was attracted to it because the stylus reminded me of the good old PalmOS days. But the Note 2 is way too big. Otherwise it runs well and does all I want/need.

A friend switched from an iPhone to a Sony Xperia. His was terribly disappointed by the Android OS and will probably switch back to iOS at the next opportunity.

Wait a few more months, new iphones are definitely coming... The latest rumors are bigger screen sizes.

Well.... ive had the HTC one M7 for nearly a year and love it, very fast, easy to use, build quality is outstanding and the camera is by far the best phone camera ive ever used and the screen is very clear.... the M8 is now out which is supposed to be better.. but I will be keeping the M7 for a while yet..
however my wife loves apple and I get to use that now and again, she has the latest?? 5s is it? but I prefer my HTC, bigger screen but not too big ;)

Word on iPhone 6 seems to be September. I'm holding onto my 4s until then.

My strategy will be to wait until the 6 comes out and then get the 5s at a discounted rate!

iphone. 4S is still good in my books. Depending on where you are and if you want UHD downloads I would opt for an older model, if you can get one. The 5 is just too big for my use, but you might be different.

If your Telco has a good plan for downloads then maybe 4G might be the better option, but I seriously don't even use half the download I have. if you don't sue it or don't need it, then don't have it. Stay with something a little less bells and whistles and save some dollars on the way through.
