lol, I'm not living in Canada anymore, was just a random youtube video I found.
I did grow up in Calgary though, and -40 wasn't that rare.
I'm currently enjoying the 35degree celsius summer down here in Australia at the moment though

This winter has been brutal so far, my car said -30 when I left home yesterday morning and our 'normals' are in the -5 to -10 range this early in the winter as we aren't that far north. Wind chills brought it down to closer to -50. I'm going to be in Winnipeg in a few weeks and they have already had temperatures of -45 without the wind chill. The problem with the prairies, Ontario and Quebec is that we don't get the break from the temperatures unlike places like Calgary. You are right Dr J that -40 isn't that uncommon in Calgary, but neither is +10 a few days later - and that's just not something that we get.

Supposedly a balmy -5 here for the next couple of days but another 20cm or so of snow by Monday.

Yeah the Chinooks that blow through Calgary are crazy. -40 to +10 within the same week!
Winterpeg is always cold :S

I think Calgary was officially the coldest place on earth for a day, in the week before Christmas. Good enough reason to emigrate I think! Too darn cold for me.

Like Dr. J, we have a nice day of weather in Melbourne too. A fine 24C where we are, even if a little windy.

Sorry to here you always get bad weather when you visit. You need to return pretty soon, as we could do with a bit more rain.

That's nuts!! I was in Tokyo over the new year and went to Fuji-Q amusement park and I only lasted for two rides because of the 1.5hours wait each in the 3 degrees Celcius weather -- summer for u guys!!

Now to strap those to a 4wd convertible...

I tried out an ATV with some once and they were 'OK'. They cost an absolute fortune - over $5,000 for an ATV set a few years back and if you do break through the snow then they become a real pig (although that's less of an issue with a car / truck).

That's crazy. We're missing winter at the moment!

It doesn't have to be -40. Ever wonder why this is always done with "boiling hot water?"

Hot / boiling water will also freeze in to ice cubes quicker than cold water.
