Could this be the greatest app ever! Certainly for plane spotters?

Here in the west of Ireland love watching the planes overhead heading for the states In the evening and coming from there in the morning.

I love the radar function, Point to the sky and tell you everything about the flight. Seems to be very accurate too.

Any fans?

How quickly is it updated? Does it get updated through satelite tracking or airlines' reporting? Domestic flights here in Indonesia are notorious for delays & no one seems to have a clue where the plane currently is ("the plane is not here yet sir"). Would be awesome if I can TELL them where my plane is!! :D

The app can use the camera to Detect planes in the sky. It's like using the camera on the phone, when a plane is in range in Points to the plane on screen with revelant information. It's Surprisingly accurate. I sometimes can not see planes as they have no jet stream and it will point out exactly where it is in the sky. I ll take a snap shot when I have clear skies!

Info From the app.

Description.

Flightradar24.com shows live airplane traffic from different parts around the world. The technique to receive flight information from aircraft is called ADS-B. That means the Flightradar24.com can only show information about aircraft equipped with ADS-B transponders. Today about 60% of the passenger aircraft and only a small amount of military and private aircraft have an ADS-B transponder. Please read more below about which airplane models are visible on Flightradar24.com

Coverage

Flightradar24.com has a network of about 300 ADS-B receivers around the world that receives plane and flight information from aircraft with ADS-B and sends this information to a server, and then displays this information on a map on Flightradar24.com. Only aircraft within the coverage area of the 300 receivers are visible.

Flightradar24.com covers about 90% of Europe. There is also some coverage in USA, Canada, Australia, Brazil, Middle East, Japan and other parts around the world. Please read more below about coverage and how to improve coverage in your area.

I've been using FlightRadar for a couple of years now. Filter inbound traffic to the local jetport on the PC http://www.flightradar24.com/48.03,18.05/5 to see what's on the way and I have the app on the phone for when I'm up there.

The most interesting thing I saw recently was the RAF's new tanker which is based on an Airbus A330 so shows up on FlightRadar. It's flightpath to/from the North Sea and the racetracks it flew when there.

It's in real time other than the FAA date in the USA where there's a 5 minute delay.

Won't surprise me a bit if all the domestic planes in Indonesia belongs to the 40% that don't have the ADS-B transponders!

The app has recently been updated and improved, and now shows many aircraft previously unseen.

How do you find any f15s. Is it from a flight code?

Have a look over East Anglia. There's often a couple from Lakenheath about in the morning. Call signs vary by squadron/mission so just look for something out of the ordinary.

The flight path is a bit of a give away too!
