That's what we get where we are at. It's like you went swimming when you just step outside your house for 5 minutes.

Thats 47 C. Pretty hot and I hope you all survive the heatwave there in Pheonix.

42-45 is pretty hot in Australia too, but is typical also of our outback in mid summer. I would take dry heat over humidity anytime although at these temperatures it is almost impossible to get less than 100% humidity.

Take care all and find somewhere cool.

Ouch! we normally only get those temps once a year here in summer :-S Stay indoors!

As for Jim, thankfully you're in icy Melbourne for the summer!

Here in the UK it's 17C, though it's likely to rocket up to 23C by the weekend. :(

Yep, Dr. J. In Melbourne for the WInter and Lovin it! You have not lived until you try out 4 seasons in one day. This is the best time in Melbourne weatherwise.

Sad to hear 19 Fire Services personnel were lost in Arizona today. Very tragic. If the news was correct, those high temperatures are starting to take a toll of the people fighting fires there. Thats something we sadly know all to well here in Australia. Take care everyone.

Sincerely,

Yes wildfires in the pine mountains are an unfortunate summer occurrence not just in Arizona but most the of Western US. What many do not know is the northern half of Arizona is mountainous and has the largest Ponderosa pine forest in the world. But it is dry and there are quite some dead trees, effectively kindling, due to an infestation of bark beetles which create more dead trees. The US long pursued a short-sighted and reckless policy of putting out all fires. As a result the natural forest cycle was interrupted - nature could not clear away what nature needed to clear away, which would result eventually in new healthy pine forests. Plus, the snows have been down over a long stretch and snow pack melt off is crucial. The forests of the arid Western US are dry. Man has encroached with permanent homes and vacation cabins everywhere, which is understandable - it is beautiful. Even though the Forest Service's fire policy has changed, they still have to fight (contain) these aggressive fires, especially when homes are involved. What happened to the Prescott Fire Jumpers is just terrible. Awful. Pray for their families and friends. This fire is actually 30+ miles south of Prescott right now. Prescott is a beautiful town sitting at the same elevation as Denver. I only get there twice a year on retreats I regularly attend.

But what we are experiencing in the West, and have for a long time, is the direct result of man's ignorance (and arrogance) in manipulating necessary natural cycles. Sooner or later, later nature wins out.

Sad to hear. We unfortunately know all to well the devastating nature of fires down here in Australia.

I do hope the fires and temps settle down in Arizona soon :-(
