Post subject:  Finally!

On August 22nd contractors arrived and demolished our kitchen. Now it's finally finished after 3 months. Still a couple of minor items, but nothing that now prevents us from fully using it. We don't have the new stools or breakfast table but the guy making them promises that they will be here by Christmas. My photography skills aren't the greatest as we well know, but here's a quick shot of my watch budget for the year.

Wow, that looks great, Roff! I can't imagine surviving without a kitchen for such a long time, but the end result is sure nice.

Faucet is pretty cool - matches the drawer pulls and pot filler too. It's this one in the 'American Bronze' finish - http://www.waterstoneco.com/faucets/gan ... wson18.php

Nice!! I like the cabinets on the counter on the back wall. It's a great way to hide a the little appliances.

Yeah my wife designed those specifically. The doors lift up and slide back so that the appliances can be pulled out and used and there are power outlets in there so they are all set to go. Really pleased with how that worked out.

Wow, looks great! Like the countertop (granite?). We are getting new countertops this winter, looking at granite or quartz. All the wood looks cozy, congrats. Where is the robotic chef, on break?

The L shaped counter is granite with a leather finish, the island is quartzite (different from quartz). It's very similar to granite in the way that it is formed and mined, essentially it just contains more quartz and less feldspar than granite. That one's called 'fusion' with the colours coming from the minerals trapped in it when it is formed.

Wood is all walnut and there's actually a lot more than you can see - all around the island as well. My wife is an avid cook so wouldn't welcome a robot helper

There's not a better looking wood than walnut IMO. I really like the sink and imagine it is very functional by the looks. I bet that piece of granite was heavy!

My sister still lives in England where houses tend to be a little smaller and the countertop is about the size of her kitchen now - it's about 11 feet long by almost 6 feet at the widest point.
