i dont get it. so you sign up to be a mystery shopper and report back to these guys for........fun?? tell me these guys pay the shoppers something.

IMO this is just garbage. I am shocked that Nelson would agree to let this guy post this and not get compensated. The google ads totally make sense as its a way to help monetize the traffic to pay for hosting fees etc. but this???? cmon!

I wonder how our AD site sponsors would feel knowing the very members they like to help out with discounts might be recruited to rat them out. Then again, I can think of a number of ADs (not site sponsors) who probably deserve to be ratted out, so I guess it's a wash.

Before you all get your panties in a wad about spying on stores and ratting out your AD my mom has been a mystery shopper for 20+ years. She is long retired and has tons of time on her hands and like that sort of crap. She gets paid a small bit of $$$ but nothing to make it worth her time. If it were about money she would be better of being a wall mart greeter for a few hours a week. Typically she is given an very specific script of what she needs to "check out" and a report card of sorts - typically question answered on a scale of 1 to 5. How clean were the bathrooms, how friendly was the staff, was the parking ample, did they greet you promptly, etc.

Obviously I don't know this particular case, but I seriously doubt you are going to be asked to go buy a $10K watch on the mystery companies dime and report back on how much of a discount they gave you.

First off, how did you know about my panties?

Second, there was a thread a while back about how Breitling was cracking down on ADs discounting, and I seem to recall one tactic was the use of secret shoppers. Perhaps this recruiter has nothing to do with that, but that is where my thoughts first went when reading his post. The problem is, this recruiter is attempting to pull directly from a pool of customers, many of whom have established good relationships with their ADs, and rely on those ADs for good buying opportunities and good deals, so I see some potential conflict of interest there. Or maybe I really am getting my (metaphorical - ahem) panties in a wad.

Not directed at you JacksonStone and/or your panties directly...just seemed like the direction the thread was heading in the previous couple of posts. I really dont' care. Just sort of information more than anything about the MShopper thing in general. My mom typically gets a free meal if it is a restaurant she is checking out and about $20 for gas, time, etc. Based on the money most seem to have here to spend on watches you would have to really want to do this sort of thing for the fun of it, if there is in fact any fun to be had. To each his own, right?

Your comment makes no sense. If you're a good dealer, regardless of discounting, and discounting alone doesn't qualify you as a good dealer, and if you operate professionally, there shouldn't be a problem or reason to worry. If you're a shady dealer with questionable practices, then you should worry.

Secret shoppers are also utilized by the stores or companies that are asked to shop in so the company can evaluate where they need to improve or what they should do more of. The purpose of a secret shopper isn't necessarily to "rat people out."

But what J/S is taking about something completely different that is the spreading tend of major watch brands to play like Rolex and send shoppers into ADs SOLEY to catch them discounting too much. As has been reported a here a while back, Breitling USA chief Thierry made the rounds of all his ADs and personally met with owners to warn them this would be happening. I know it is true because I was at my AD the day after Thierry's visit and got it straight from the owner. RJRJRJ confirmed it from LA too.

So what J/S was talking about is presently going on and the ADs are under scrutiny strictly for discounting, not poor service or shady tactics.
