The aviation enthusiasts on here may be interested to know that it was exactly 50 years ago today, 27 May 1958, that the McDonnell F4H-1, later re-designated the F-4 Phantom II, first took to the skies. Although now used only as target drones in the USA, the aircraft continues to serve the air forces of Germany, Greece, Japan, South Korea and Turkey. Still a magnificent sight :P

Hell of a machine - built like a brick sh*thouse!!

Amazing fact there Sharkmouth and quite scary to think she's been around that long - and still going strong!

Must trawl round for some footage - Youtube must have something.

Saw a Wild Weasel at an airshow when I was a kid - first plane that ever scared the cr*p out of me.

They don't make them like that anymore!

Still editing my pictures from the recent airshow I went to, but here's a classic for you Sharkmouth.

Image

This was taken from the flight line of the Air National Guard base in my hometown of Fort Smith, Arkansas USA. I was 12 years old when this photo was taken, circa 1985. The 188th TFW, The "Flying Razorbacks".
