yes it was a frozen grey track edition limited to 30. i like the frozen black better, but im sure they will sell out in the first 2 seconds. they probably have a special call center set up with 19 frozen black phones that im sure are all going to ring at 11:29:59 est. owner of the car gets the phone also.

19!! That's a bunch of Bull sh.t!! BMW should speak to Breitling to learn how to put out a proper LE of 2000.

That finish is beautiful but I read somewhere that it's difficult to keep clean and easy to ruin if cleaned improperly.

Yeah, can't run it through car washes and have to clean bugs, sap, etc off it straight away.

I saw Audi's version on an R8 the other day and I have to say I didn't really like it. Nothing specific, it just looked odd.

And last time around I was reading that you can essentially achieve the same look with the standard dark gray color and some matte 3M film.

I had an entirely different idea from reading the thread title...

Anyhow, that thing does look very nice. Doesn't sound like the paint finish would last very well in Australian conditions and it would probably cost about half a million bucks here, so it's just as well I can't have one.

Or a can or two of grey Dulux emulsion!

These matt paint jobs look nice enough in the shiny showroom, but (as others have said) they are a b*stard to keep looking good...... which means a lot of people probably won't bother to try after the initial novelty wears off..... which means they're going to look truly awful in a few years.

IMO if you really want that look, you're better off buying a normally painted car and just get a professional vinyl-wrap job done on it. That way you can have the "just undercoated" look for a while, and then, because vinyl-wrap is reversible, you can go back to having a proper paint-job if/when a) matt paint becomes less trendy, and b) you actually want to sell the car!

Walked past a matte black Golf GTI on my way to work this morning. It looked dirty, even though it was pretty clean, just had a couple of sap spots on the roof that ruined the whole effect. Honestly, it reminded me of some of the old furniture that gets thrown by the side of the road in that part of town, I had a tv bench once with that finish. I don't think this is something that's going to last. 8)

Maybe not but the fact that the paint job was certainly not done by the OEM might be a reason of why it looked dirty.

These days most people are doing to vinyl wrap, and not actually repainting the car. Its pretty popular around here. I see all kinds of new cars with it, porches, audis, benz etc. When done correctly, it looks like real paint even from up close.

I like that one. Looks like the best of the bunch so far. Theyre all a little cheezy though. Ill take an SLS in alubeam silver.
