OK but you may explain where is the fun of driving in all this.

I know. But that won't happen as often as with us who drive "non-hybrid" cars. And I think the gas thank for the Prius contains about 10 gallons so.... Not much...

Let's see, driving full electric, no gas engine. Yeah, that's fun, for me it is and apparently for others as well. Maybe not for you (F14D_Tomcat) but it'd be a terrible life if we all loved the same things.

Is it a Vette? Of course not. It is what it is intended to be.

A regular Prius has an 11.9 gallon tank, the plug-in has 10.6 gallons. I don't use any gas Monday-Friday commuting to work and none grocery shopping, kids to school, etc. Only weekend road trips and even then I get around 55mpg.

With discounted rates for charging, I can go 50 miles for $1.08. Around here a gallon of gas to go 50 miles would cost me $4.18.

How does that work - how come sometimes you use gas and others you don't? Thanks

I think that the new Prius are fitted with electrical inlets so you can charge and therefore choose whether to use gas or batteries when driving. When driving on the freeway or at higher speeds the old Prius anyway switched from battery to gas since the gas consumption is low and it needs to recharge the batteries.

Am I correct?

Not all new Prius, only the Plug-in. The Plug-in uses Lithium-Ion as the battery chemistry, not nickel metal hydride. Li-ion is much more dense; Regular Prius battery is about 1.1 kWh while the Lithium Ion battery in the plug-in is abour 4.4 kWh. And yes, only the Plug-in has a door opposite side from the gas filler door where you 'plug in' to recharge the battery from an outlet for up to 15 miles pure electric driving. If you can recharge using solar/wind or even get low utility rates for recharging the savings add up. Those savings allow one to fund their Breitling habit lol.

So with the regular one you can run electric only up to maybe 40mph but you had to be quite 'ginger' on the pedal or else the engine kicked in. With the plug-in you can accelerate MUCH more briskly and maintain all electric mode up to 62mph for up to 15 miles. That range isn't great for middle America perhaps but in NYC, LA etc it's all you need to run errands etc. And with a short 1 1/2 hour recharge time you can run multiple trips throughout the day. Plus, it's got a button to switch from EV mode to HV or gas engine mode where it will run like a regular Prius so you can conserve battery range for when you want it.

I've owned 2 Maximas, a 300M, Camaro SS, Acura TL Type S and now 3 Prius and I have loved them all. This one has all the bells and whistles like Radar Cruise, HUD, LED headlights etc so it's a gadget guys kinda car in a sense...

Which is?

I don't consider it more than a marketing tool.

I am sure that you're aware that it's proven that a Prius pollutes more than a Hummer. That is if you consider everything from production to complete recycle. Which is not the case, of course, if you solely consider the use of the car.

Oh, you are one of those people, meaning those who buy into the propaganda spread years ago by 'haters'. No point further talking with you because people who spread that misinformation do not want to listen to facts. I posted a pic of my current car like countless others in this forum.

Have fun talking about only the cars you like and wrongly judging those you dislike, not being willing to have an open mind. Shame.

He's just biased. If your car had a BMW logo on it he'd be all about it!

Which, as a beemer-person I can't quite disregard as a criterium for quality.

However, pollution or not... It's the poster's Prius, whatever motive he has for liking it is fine... If its right for him that's all that matters.

I think none of us has an entitlement to the absolute truth of things. No one has flamed us for being polluters, and we shouldn't either.

Btw, the hard earned cash we may or may not have forked over to BMW is being spent on EV-R&D as we type...

Its the new world folks...
