Post subject:  Navitimer experience help required please

Hi all. I am new to Breitling watches and have just purchased my first a standard Navitimer. I have noticed that when wearing it there is a quiet 'clicking' sound that I assume to be the ratcheting of the auto-wind mechanism. When I move my arm in an exaggerated motion (rotary type motion) there is a much louded sound/vibration that continues even after I stop moving, it sounds like a ball bearing in a tin, only much quieter. Can anyone tell me if this is normal? or is there a problem. Some one with experience will know, I don't want to go back to the dealer if there isn't a problem. Thanks.

Don't worry, it's normal.

Yep, all normal. Just the rotor of the auto-wind mechanism spinning round.

I have noticed that the louder the operation is, the closer you may be to needing a re-lubrication of the movement. This isn't surprising, since any motor gets noiser the less lubricated it is. No cause for alarm, but how long has it been since the last servicing?

Thanks for the replies. In answer to the last comment, the watch is brand new. I think it the sound is very audilble?

Maybe take in to your AD and compare it to another. There is no telling how physically old the watch is, in terms of how long it's been sitting in a warehouse/display case. It would maybe be prudent to have it serviced anyway, since that would be covered under warranty. I frankly think that if in fact it needs servicing, it would be better to do that as opposed to demanding an exchange. You may find another piece does the same thing if it's of similar age.

These are all hypotheticals, but I don't think in any event it's anything to really worry about. Everyone has a different annoyance threshold though.

Its completely normal. The Navi has an ETA 7750 in it, which is well known to be one of the noisiest (in a good way) movements there is.

Thank you all for the advice, the next time out I will pop into the AD to do a comparison, I guess I may be worrying too much, but this is my 1st experience owning this watch. It's all about knowledge.
