What''s the deal here - is my dealer/service centre ripping me off?

That does seem a bit ridiclous mate and something is seriously wrong there., i've also got an aerospace and have just changed the battery for the 1st time after 8 & 1/2 year's!
If i was you i'd be going to an AD and demanding it is figured out and fixed or replaced...

I had 3 Aerospaces and battery life was between 5 and 7 years so something is definately very wrong. If this would happen to my Emergency at 350 eur per battery change...

If the battery is actually running out that's very odd. The only thing I can think that would drain the battery so fast if if the backlight was on the whole time. Or I guess there could be some kind of fault that was draining power somehow..... It's an odd one. :huh

If the AD is just telling you that you need a battery change without there being any sign of battery depletion, then yes I'd say you are being ripped off.

Anywhere that I have replaced a battery they have given me a 1 year guarantee on it. Not sure if you had it serviced or what.. I've only ever replaced batteries on quartz breitlings.

my airwolf lasted 18mths before its first battery change. It all depends how long you use it. I use all the functions daily & while at work the backlight a hell of a lot. Its worthwhile considering that the newer aeros only have the backlight, this could explain it. Either way I would either wait until the display blinks or get a new battery every second year or so. Nothings more annoying than a blinking display(the functions are unreliable as they could fail anytime soon, and it may take some time to get it to the maintenance centre.
