which movement is more resistant to knocks and shocks, the automatic or the quartz? |

In most cases, Quartz is definitely more resistant to shock. For a number of reasons Quartz has fewer parts, ie: usually a simple step motor relayed to a battery powered charge. Automatics are a wonder of mechanics with hundreds of small interconnected parts working under very close tolerances. By this nature they are affected more by centrifugal force and momentum of quick movements. In short, Quartz has so few moving parts that are well contained you can pretty well beat the crap out of them with little effect. |

but there are some mechanical watch companies apply their watch with extra shock resistant systems to make them really tough like ( kobold and uts),so i think bye this way it may be more resistant to shocks than analog quartz,so what do u think? |

Quartz should be more resistant anyway. |

The Kobold case/hands etc may be more shock proof than a $10 analogue quartz but a quartz movement will always be more shock proof than a mechanical. |

Wyler watches are some of the most shock resistant. Watchtime, just had an article about their shock resistance recently. They endured some pretty crazy tests, like being dropped from the Eiffel Tower, run over by a car, and dropped I think from somewhere in the U.S. all watches despite some cracked crystals had fully functioning movements!! But as it stands, Quartz watches are more shock resistant on average than automatics. |
