so new release coming - pretty clearly.

what has breitling said? well apparently according to the email I got

'We're charting a new course. Join the Breitling Summit Webcast live on November 17th at 5:00 pm CET to watch CEO Georges Kern unveil a spectacular new collection you won't want to miss."

having registered - the next message is:

WE’RE REACHING NEW HEIGHTS. JOIN THE BREITLING SQUAD NOVEMBER 17TH AT 5 PM CET FOR THE UNVEILING OF A NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN COLLECTION. SIGN UP BELOW TO TUNE INTO THE WEBCAST WHERE WE'LL CHART A NEW COURSE IN BREITLING HISTORY.

I had thought either a new aerospace or avenger, then a "new collection" and I was wondering if the transocean would return but this is super exciting - an all new collection? Frankly compared to the hype pretty pedestrian tudor facelifts get this is actually, truly, really worthy of some hype.

No new aerospace, but a new collection. From what I have heard it will be a 46mm chronograph with a striking resemblance to the 765 re-edition. The models will be aviation based with design cues from previous models including the "Mosquito and Curtiss Warhawk". Obviously a lot larger than previous models and if true, I wonder who provided the major influence for a watch of this size. Definitely would be a step in another direction for Breitling!

For what its worth the blue dialed one is really nice!!!

I missed the webcast due to work unfortunately(!) but I've had a look at the new models, and I think they're all really nice looking pieces. And the best part of all? NO 4:30 DATE POSITION!!!!!!! I cannot stress how happy that makes me! :D Please carry on with this Breitling!

BUT (and I'm really sorry to say this) why did these models have to be so big? 46mm across, 16mm thick, 51.5mm lug to lug, and 24mm lug width.... even 10 years ago I'd have thought twice about that size, but nowadays it's not even remotely a consideration for me. 42mm max and I'd probably have been a buyer of the Mosquito version as it now also has a ceramic bezel insert.

I guess what I really want is the 765 AVI Re-edition but with a sapphire crystal!

But yes, gargantuan size aside, they're nice looking pieces.

I'm with you on the size. At 42mm I would be all over that mosquito one as well. They look great overall, they are just too big for me.

well, to sum it up.
the US is Breitling’s biggest market - and that’s the size that market (and mqny others) desperately wanted ;)

we’re in the business of selling watches, so that’s “why”.

Not in diameter I hope, Fred!

Not doubting the market research, but I'm still quite surprised there was a call for this sort of size these days TBH.

Anyway, I hope they sell well.

Interesting webcast. I was excited to see the airplanes because I know and fly with those guys. I've already chided my friends for their lines in the video: "Over and out" is an oxymoron. The first means "your turn to talk," and the latter means "I'm finished and not listening anymore." They told me it was part of the script, which I figured the moment they said it. And George turning the mag switch in the Mustang...I suppose it looks good to non-pilots. Except, pilots know that both of these things are wrong, and we're the target market!

Unfortunately, many of the webcasts have been hokey, and to me, it gives these releases a cheap feeling. Not what I expect from a luxury brand.

I like the watches and the size is right for me, but I'm not going to be rushing out to buy one. Maybe I'll warm up to it?
