Hi Hi I am new to the forum. Was looking at the Scott Carpenter 1996 Limited Edition (original steel bracelet) which some one has put up for auction for around US$3000. Appreciate any comments on the watch and good entry price if reasonable condition. Thank you |

Very good price indeed - only 1,000 of them produced and they don't come up for sale very often. |

Dear Driver8 and Roffensian Thanks for replying. The price was just an estimate from auctioneer. Hopefully, it doesn't get substantially overbidded at the real auction. Btw, how much max should I pay if there's no cert etc and condition is reasonable? |

Christie's HK sold one last year for $3,400. At the Bonham's auction in London today, prices were generally on the low side so $3,000 may be a realistic figure. I wouldn't worry about the box/papers. Nice if they exist but the older the watch, the less chance of them surviving, IMHO, a fine watch to own and probably a good investment as it should hold its value better than most watches. Good luck if you decide to go for it! |

Good luck if you decide to go for it! That's a pretty decent reference point - the HKD / USD exchange rate is currently comparable with what it was for that sale. The watch is only 12 years old so box and paper versions should still be out there, but I agree with Sharky that it's not a huge deal, especially given that they don't come up much. |
