Beware of the 2015 Flying Fish and its father the 1984 Chronomat 81950 #0349.

There's something about the simplicity of the older model. It's clean, unfussy and utilitarian. Gets my vote for sure.

I'm not a super fan of the curved case of the old one.

I'd take the old one.

Have to thank you for this. I like being able to see these side by side. I would have thought I would have jumped on the old until I saw them side by side, I voted for the new. I have a new Chronomat, with the brushed bezel, not the case, and have often wondered how it would stack up to the older size and design.
Thank you again, Frank.

:yeahthat it's not easy to see a grandfather and grandson together. Everytime I see an old and new piece together, I am always more impressed with the new one. More details, better made. While old ones are commonly more simple and straightforward in aesthetics, I prefer the details of new blood. I like pieces that incorporate the traditions of the old while instilling new elements to signify the new cutting edge in horology. It's like pening down a new history that will be read and appreciated by our descendants in years to come.

My own favorite is the old one actually. The Flying Fish is obviously a better watch, and more stunning. But better is not always everything. I do love the new B01-series and specially the satin ones. But my number 349 got soul, real soul. Also I'm a hardcore fan of the "ufo-case". :)

Which one will I sell first? Well, if I find another first series 81950 but with the original aopa-dial, maybe the grandpa with the wing-dial goes. Otherwise it stays. Probability = FF will leave my collection first.

As much as I'm no Buck-Bezel fan, the FF is without a doubt one of the best looking of the B01 Chronomats IMO. So, new for me. 100%

Whilst I'm not over keen on the Buck Rogers Bezel I can certainly live with it, but would rather they put the Airborne Bezel on there if I'm perfectly honest!

It would have been a better comparison to use the Chronomat 41 - sizewise they fit better. I'd way prefer the airborne bezel on the new one, regardless it's 41 or 44 mm. I love my BEB dial Chronomat 41... :)
Best,
Robert
