How would you feel about the Co-Pilot being updated to incorporate common "smartwatch" features?

IMO It make sense from a purely functional standpoint as current smartwatches have issues with battery life which does not affect mechanicals movements and the co-pilot has been offered to increase functionality of a mechanical watch.

That's an idea. I like it. I am yet to find a use or a need for a copilot or a smart watch, but some do.

It makes sense to me. After all, quartz is all about technology and it always amazes me how basic (relatively speaking) Swiss quartz movements that you find in many prestige Swiss brands tend to be in terms of functionality compared to Japanese offerings. So yeah, I say why not.

Not sure to be honest. I can't imagine my Airwolf on my wrist with an Apple Watch as Co-Pilot....

I bought a smart watch last year thinking I would gain something, anything, by having immediate access on my wrist. I gained absolutely nothing except annoyance and lost the money I spent on it. I definitely will never buy another smart watch except those designed for fitness and training.

Love the idea. I posted support for the concept of the B55--we'll see how it turns out in reality. I suppose it could be consolidated into the co-pilot.

Not quite sure what you are suggesting.
You are saying that smart watches have issues with battery life which does not affect mechanical movements. OK, I buy that but as far as I know co-pilots are Quartz and do required battery.
Or am I just stupid and missing something?

The apple watch has a reputed battery life of "4hrs screen time". so smart watches have battery life issues that are extremely limited even compared to a quartz co-pilot which I would assume could go a year or two between battery changes. The problem is that the whole smart watch turns on to tell time, so if the smart watch is dead you can't tell time, but a mechanical watch would allow you to always have the time visible in a visually pleasing manner (apple watch goes black), which would be a fail safe as well as a battery life extender for the smart watch. The co-pilot is and was always meant to be worn with a traditional watch head, extending it's functionality.

So the idea would be to update the co-pilot from basic quartz to a "smart watch" perhaps though a smarter more luxury oriented one though I'm thinking weather heart rate monitor altimeter barometer tides type of features world time, synced outlook calendars alarms etc.

That's an interesting idea. Regardless of what watch enthusiasts like to think about >$350 watches being "tool watches", it's a totally anachronistic (sic) notion. Anything over $350 is jewelry, and can only be properly appreciated for its value as jewelry, because from a practical point of view, a cheaper watch does all the same stuff and can be treated like a tool because replacement price is an important specification for a tool to be used as such.

The co-pilot idea is interesting because it's a form factor that can be kept less expensive, and that's important because the form-factor of smartwatches is going to be evolving fast enough to rule out the possibility that any of these early attempts will have any enduring value. It can be worn alongside a more expensive piece of jewelry such as a Navitimer/B1/Aerospace, etc.

This B55 thing they're pushing now is nutty, but I guess they've got to start somewhere.
