Hello, my 1st post here. I've been on TRF for quite a while, but found my way over here.

So I picked up a bronze dial 6.75, but have concerns. I've noticed marks on the slide rule portion of the rotating bezel (photo #1), under the crystal. What could have caused these? To me it looks like corrosion (rust?). Also, I've noticed a few specs of dust (photo #2) living under there too. I purchased from original owner. I have 2 weeks to return, but wondering if anyone else has come across anything similar and what I can do to rectify. Is this something that could be taken care of at any good watchmaker?

Welcome to BreitlingSource. Dust is bad servicing practices, can't explain the mark, but both are unacceptable to me. Servicing comes with a 12 month warranty so that may be an option, if not I would return it.

I agree with Roff. Totally unacceptable. As Roff said I would return it!!!

Return it? Depends on what you paid for it. Looks like it's scratched up on the lug also unless that's just a fingerprint. Anything I have to look through a loupe to find usually isn't a mission stopper unless I paid too much in the first place.

I would return it... Those problems would both be unacceptable to me. Those marks to appear to be oxidation related, and the Bentley watches are not the most waterproof so its very possible moisture got in there. Buying watches second hand always has a risk, but you can save yourself a ton of money.

But as Paul said above, may depend on what you paid for it.

I'd be in $3500 if I keep it.

None of the scratches are deep enough to feel with a fingernail...all hairlines which I'd expect with a 10 year old watch.

My daily wearer is a Rolex 16600 Sea Dweller. I guess I do expect this watch to be waterproof, but of course not to the 4000ft depth that my SD is rated.

A return looks likely. Bummer as I've been looking for this exact combo for a while (complete set, bronze dial, croc strap w/deployment buckle).

Looks like a consistent series of small rings in the Bezel scale. Manufacturing perhaps? Either something placed over the face of the Scale at some stage or its under the printing and is started showing through. Not sure that it could be removed and may be a better fix if replaced, if available. Factor the downtime and hassle of getting a quality repair plus your original buy in price.

The C scale if replaced must be matched to the D scale. Don't accept any new scale as being right without the installer checking that first. All calculations must be accurate even though it's an inverted scale.

Best of luck.

That isn't indicative of the quality of a new breitling. return it.
