Post subject:  Ready to buy a Datora. Could use some advice.

I am currently without a Breitling having sold my Old Navitimer Fighter.

The white faced SS Datora has been on my wish-list for years, and I came close to picking one up in Edmonton where the seller in the mall was quite eager and sadly I never pulled the trigger.

I sometimes buy watches from Authenticwatches.com but after calling them today I was left confused.

According to the fellow how took my call they have the "older" model in stock and it is almost $1,000 more than the current model which they have to order. ???

This made little sense to me as I would have thought they would want to blow out their current inventory. Usually the people I talk to down there are very informed. This guy was not very bright and he had a chippy attitude. Like "are you gonna' buy or not?" I told him I would have to do more research because he was not answering my questions to my satisfaction. I bought an Oris from a great girl there a couple months back and she was a treat to deal with.

Who here is a Datora freak? Does anyone know what the guy at WI was talking about? Has there been a new release? My older catalogs seem to show the same watch that is in the current catalog.

We have one AD here in my city but he will not bend a nickel and subsequently will not get my business. WI offers a decent discount but in an effort to save as much of my hard-earned cash as possible I would love to find one that a dealer is dying to sell or would even consider a minty pre-owned model.

Anyone know of a good source or a good one for sale? (I routinely watch the ones on eBay)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can't comment on grey market pricing, but the Datora was briefly discontinued about 2 years ago and then quietly reintroduced last year with minor cosmetic changes. A little bit about it here - viewtopic.php?f=1&t=40752.

Finally saw the comparison of the old face and the new one.

Definitely like the old one better. Nicer hands, the red inner circle and the new one does not appear to have nay lume???

Instead of changing it they should have simply made some color choices.

I am surprised the old version is more expensive.
