Just wondering if you guys let your chronographs run all day long.

A guy who was sitting next to me on the metro today complimented me on my watch and asked why the "second" hand was not moving, i told him that was not the second hand but the choronograph hand and that it activates when i start the lap, and that the 12oclock shows u the minutes, the 6oclock shows u the hours that passed and the 9olock position is the real second hand.

But it got me thinking maybe i should just let it run all day long....would it be bad for the watch? Would it wear down on the movement faster and require servicing much sooner than expected???

I only run my chronograph when I'm using it...for the most part. Sometimes I'll see it running, and think "Hmm...I know I was timing something...but what was it?"

I run mine for a couple of hours when I wear them, but I guess running them for about 24 hours makes sense. Right, off to click a few buttons I go, and of course remember to stop them again this time tomorrow! (Thank heavens for watch winders!).

Normally mine run all the time. I just like the look of the big seconds hand sweeping across the dial.

i also like the seconds moving around, but does it hurt the watch accurancy and life lasting?

Not really. There's minimal additional wear on the movement, but on the other hand you make sure spreading the lubricant oils which decrease friction and prevent damage. I guess in theory, if you would leave the chrono running forever and never service the watch, you would have a breakdown earlier than if you did the same without the chrono running. But, as you normally have the watch serviced every now and then it's no problem.

I run mine everytime I wear a watch. I'm with Aleister, I like the look of the hand sweeping around too! :D

I run mine every now and then (6 months) just to spread the lube.

I do not leave the car running 24/7 either.
