Hey guys im new here....I need help with my first breitling I have decided to gift my self a breitling for my birthday which is 3 weeks away. I am very confused b/w the SOH CHRONOGRAPH and the Super avenger with the new baton markers. Off late reading the reviews online and seeing the pictures, the wire mesh bracelet and the understated elegance of the SOHC is slowly seducing me....on the other hand, the sheer size of the super avenger is hard to dismiss straight up !! i tried both of them at a local AD and yet no verdict.....still very confused. Could you guys give me some insight ?? Cheers |

Now you've already done that, but try them again and eventually one will shout louder than the other. If not - get both! ![]() |

The Super Avenger is a whole lotta watch. Both in size and wow factor. Very impressive. Just be sure you can pull it off. ![]() |

As said before, one should call to you. I knew the SA was the one for me even before I knew anything about Breitling. It was just dumb luck I saw one in an AD while killing time shopping with my wife. It caught my eye and that's all it took. I'm now addicted! Tip: don't limit yourself to these 2 modsels. Try a bunch on! |

Both very different watches, yet the same inside. I've owned both and quickly flipped the SA due to the sheer size, and I'm no stranger to big watches. The SA is not just a watch, it is a statement. It will scream at people, and say look at me! You really need to have the right attitude, look and style to pull it off, or it could look silly. The SOHC is a very nice package (selling one on the sales corner *wink*). It is certainly not a small watch either, but doesn't scream like the SA. The SOHC has an attitude of bold sophistication, elegance, and retro-style, while the SA is more of an aggressive attitude, "look at me" attitude. You can't go wrong either way from a quality or value standpoint, you just need to pick which attitude best suits your personality. M |

Cheers guys for your opinions.... Comingto pulling it off, shouldnt be too hard for a 6ft 1, 92kg guy....ha ha thats me !! I am not yet sold on over another , I feel the SA is raw and a powerful watch, when I go out I prefer dressing up, something tells me that i'd be able to wear it less often !!??.......daily work wear cant be this coz im damn sure it wont fit under my sleeve too well..lol The SOHC is something that can be worn formally either with a black croco or the wire mesh, I feel its a good hanging out watch too...like some of you mentioned it misses the "look-at-me" attitude, a bit subtle this one.... Im looking for something equally fresh and interesting......but Mark's description of the watch being elegant, styish and retro nearly got me sold...good salesman you are buddy !! Give me some last thoughts guys, i want to close soon......can wait to own a breitling |

The SOHC still has a huge presence. It shouts just as loud, just a different message. I think the Avenger style suits any situation and dress style but the SOHC definitely looks more at home with smart/casual/suit. I'm generally a scruffy git who baulks at wearing a tie or anything vaguely resembling a suit. So far, the SOHC is the most beautiful watch I have ever seen since I bought my original Breitling 815 Long Playing back in '76, although the upcoming SOHC LE in silver might just pip it on looks. I decided to sell my SOHC (black on mesh) not because I don't like the watch but because I felt it didn't suit me that well. But my family persuaded me to keep it and just enjoy owning a beautiful thing even if I don't wear it so much. Whatever you wear, you can carry an SOHC well, just so long as you have big wrists. I think it looks too overpowering on smaller wrists (less than 7-3/4") |

IM beginning to see the SOHC shine out. Tell me though, the way the wire mesh is fitted on a rod fit in curvy/shapely lugs, does that completely agree with the construction of the watch. I mean I felt that the straight rod attached spoiled the symmetry of the watch and the wire mesh as well ?? I think Ike and MArk can def answer this one since they have used it...Also I love the 125th anniversary edition too, black dial with 2 white sub dials.......MY AD though has no clue about it as yet ?? |

I think the mesh bracelet is perfect for the SOHC, and blends beautifully with the curve of the case. The best way to see if you agree is to look at the pics I posted... you can see the bracelet is a nice match. I disagree that you need 7 3/4" wrists for the SOHC... mine are 7.25" and I have no issues with the size, comfort or the look. |

I'd buy the SOHC currently in the Buy / Sell / Trade section just so that I don't have to think about snapping it up every day! |

Quote: Tell me though, the way the wire mesh is fitted on a rod fit in curvy/shapely lugs, does that completely agree with the construction of the watch. In the sense that it is a tribute to the original Superocean style, then yes. The bracelet design is fully intended to look that way. The mesh bracelet is apparently like Marmite among Breitling afficionados - either you love it or you hate it. It comes doen to whether or not one likes the 50's/60's Breitling styles. Personally I do very much appreciate the clean, uncluttered dials and plain bezels of vintage Breitlings over modern bezels with rider tabs et al, and the recent Heritage models I think are a refreshing step for Breitling evolution. Quote: I disagree that you need 7 3/4" wrists for the SOHC... mine are 7.25" and I have no issues with the size, comfort or the look. Point taken Mark - it's a very personal thing. |
