Just wondering. Does anyone actually use it? If so, for what? |

I use mine most weekends. Track days. I also tell my wife that I use it to calculate exactly the length of time between her nags about my time on this Blog. ![]() ![]() |

There have been a couple of threads on this in the past, but it's been a while, so good topic to start up again..... I use mine for lots of different things. Now that the summer is (almost) here it will get a good work out for BBQing, especially timing steaks. I also use it for timing myself when I'm rehearsing presentations / speeches that only have a set time allocated for them, or similarly for timing others when they are doing similar presentations so that I can give them warnings. In the winter I also use it for timing my training runs when I'm running my dog sled team. |

I supervise exams on a daily basis so it gets used all the time, albeit as a backup to a Heuer stopwatch. |

I love chronogaphs. IMO they give watches sportier, racier style and more valuable look. The dials look is more purposful and interesting. ![]() ![]() ...buuut the funny thing is I almost never use the chrono. ![]() (I understand the view of the simplistic and understated style of a non chrono too) |

Dont really need to use it. The fact that its there, is good enough for me. Also, chronographs look much nicer.... ![]() ![]() |

I use mine all the time, for all sorts of things (some useful, some quite silly). I find that I use it to time certain things, simply because I can. I do have a couple of questions though. Does the use of the chronograph cause a watch to "wind down" faster? So for example, if you wind a watch that has a 42 hour reserve, then turn on the chronograph and leave it running, will that watch now only go for 21 hours (for example)? There have been several other threads that have talked about how sitting dormant in a case for a couple of years can have a negative affect a mechanical watch. Similarly, if you never use the chronograph function, does it have the same negative affect? |

I rarely use mine. The only few times I've used it before was to time my travelling time from my place to the office. ![]() |

I use the chronograph multiple times a day. My daughter has to read 20 minutes each day, practice piano for 15, and do her mouthwash for 1 minute. She loves the "stopwatch watch" the most (she's eight). For her reading, it's great, because if she reads in the car, I don't have to remember how long she read, I just hit stop and then start it again when we get back from the store or wherever. In addition, I often use it at work to time group exercises for meetings. In fact, the readibility of the chronograph subdials was a deciding factor for me in choosing between the Skyracer and the GT. |

When I was deciding on a watch, I deliberately chose not to buy anything that I didn't regularly use. I guess I'm becoming a bit more practical in my old age. I also rationalized that for timing sake, my iPhone will do a better job with it's seemingly unlimited lap timer. I mean no offense to chronograph folks out there- it's a personal decision. I just feel that timing and time keeping is better left to electronics because of accuracy and stacking abilities. Heck.... my iPhone even has an e6B flight calculator!! Although my Steelfish won't arrive for a few days, I will miss my battery operated watch for it's superb accuracy. I guess I bought the automatic as an investment piece and as an historical statement. Plus it's awesome looking!!!!!!! Again, these are my personal reasons and I fault no one for their own reasons. |

I pretty much use my chronograph for timing stupid stuff too. Like how long it took to get my hair cut, or presentations ect. I just like the look of chronographs. ![]() |

I love the look of chronographs, but when I'm training I use a digital, a HRM or a ring timer, depending on what I'm doing. I do use my IWC for timing steaks, in fact it has been referred to once or twice as the BBQ watch. Not sure other IWC devotees would be pleased to hear that though ![]() |

I tend to use the chronograph and/or bezel several times a week. When counting down time at the allergy clinic every week or every other week. Frequently when in the kitchen. While checking runtimes of programs at work. And sometimes just to see how long a stoplight really lasts. I'm not too concerned about the accuracy - nothing I am doing requires scientific or Olympic precision. I absolutely have to have either a bezel or a chronograph! A watch without either just bugs me when a situation arises where I'd like to measure the time of some event. |
