Stopped by the AD here last evening he said that it will be announced at the end of month and should be available late summer. He had only seen an email but no information.

I received the e-mail just now and I'm not even an existing owner! I had registered my interest at the New York Boutique several months ago. Nice to know that they did take notice....

Really? I would have though 42-44mm would have more of a market (certainly 49mm won't be seeing my wrist... Perhaps would fit my bicep though!)

You're probably right doc, it's just that I have a thing for big watches (with 4 47mm & 1 60mm in my collection currently )

Technical challenges related to special batteries make it difficult to keep the size down.
One of the reasons why it will be Titanium, to keep the wieght down or at least so I heard.
49mm will make it easier to spot from a distance even without the built in emergency beacon :-)

I have been dreaming of owning an Emergency for about 2 years, and I have finally been able to afford one (coral dial from a UK Breitling Dealer), and now they announce this

What do you guys think about the original? Will this now be classed as a classic time piece? Will the value of second hand E's increase? I don't think I will ever sell mine as it has been a grail watch for so long, but just curious.

It's not on a UTC bracelet anymore, but on a Diver Pro :)

I think the big difficulty that second hand E1's will face is that soon they will not be able to be serviced.
Unless Breitling will retrofit their new in house transponder?

Have Breitling said that?

I don't recall hearing any comment about Dassault / Breitling service support for existing pieces.

All an E service is, is a battery change for the time piece, battery change for the ELT and a clean and polish of the watch itself (along with the usual gasket and seal replacement, etc).

The ELT would only need replacing or servicing if you actually set it off and use it in an emergency, even then, they replace the watch not the transmitter. I am fairly confident they have enough in stock to replace each watch sold at least once, and last time I heard they have only been used approximately 30 or so times globally. They will be supported by the service centers for many years to come (I hope).

I still know a few dealers in the UK that are selling new ones.

I thought Dassault had said they wouldn't keep servicing them in the future? Will have to try and find where I read that (this is hearsay and may be wrong)
