Just received my Chronomat back this week from a full overhaul.
AUD$630 in total, service, hands, polish etc all included.
Granted, this is not the newer in-house movement, but still a reasonable outlay every 5 years or so.

For comparison, I was just quoted $560 by BUSA to overhaul my Navitimer World, plus $106.80 for hands, and $30 for freight. Is there a VAT included in the UK quotes?

may I ask where you decided to go to have it serviced???...I'm in the ChicagoLand area as well...western suburbs

Thanks,

Bill

Breitling USA; that's how I got the quote. You send them your watch, they email a quote.

I had anticipated the necessity of a complete overhaul, due to the age of the watch, and the fact that it had never been serviced. The woman who answered the phone at Razny in Highland Park told me that they could do it, when I callled. I inquired here, and the consensus seemed to be to go with Breitling USA rather than an AD. I had been leaning that way to start with, so that's what I did.

I didn't seriously consider their authorized service centers, since there isn't one here. I figured if I had to ship, I'd go to Breitling USA.

Just a related question; what is the turn around time to get a watch back from service, in the US?

Edit:
- I am in the New York City area.
- also I understood that ADs always send to BUSA on our behalf, isn't that always the case; do they servic themselves?

I was thinking of getting a new Avenger 2, but at £540 I think I'll pass. I'd be ok with £350, but this just seems a little high when compared to Omega and Tag.

US members will have to comment on turnaround, commonly 8-10 weeks for non warranty. You can send to BUSA direct or through an AD and formal servicing is handled by the service centre rather than an AD watchmaker.

It took them 6 weeks to service my Navi World back in January.

6 weeks?!?! At these prices....goodness me. Theres nothing like keeping existing customers happy is there - the ones that are most likely to recommend (or not) a breitling watch!!!!!!!

6 weeks seems reasonable to me. Part of the reason for the cost is the extended testing and regulation which can only be done properly over an extended period of time.

I think it is a lot of money, however I feel this way.
If I bought a really top end car would I get it served by Fred round the corner?
£6+k is plenty cash for a watch. A Breitling is neither an Omega nor a Tag.

Their is a lot of work that goes into servicing a movement and every part is checked and replaced if necessary, As stated you wouldn't take a Ferrari to the garage round the corner would you....

You should be able to pick and choose exactly what services you want completed. Doesn't lessen the price of certain repairs, but you may not NEED everything BUSA suggest. At least I experienced this a few years ago when I picked up a older watch that needed some TLC. The price they quoted was almost $1500 including a new crystal.

No.

Service quotes are broken into required and recommended. All recommended service items are completely up to the owner's discretion.

^ exactly.
But even the "required" services are optional if you request they don't do.
