Yeah, mothers always say things to make their sons feel better.

I know, I know but we have to say these things to make us feel better ;-)

and this makes it the quintessential Breitling ?

BigMac, the quintessential American Food ?
Johnnie Walker, the quintessental Scotch ?
Swatch, the quintessential watch ?
the four billion fly principle ?

Yes, in one sense of the word quintessential, it does - "being the most typical." It doesn't mean the best or the most appreciated or iconic. For many people people Breitling means - a big-ass blingy Chronograph. I think that view of what Breitling means is short-sighted and, frankly, I don't care for the watch. But for that large group of folks who want or hear Breitling, and buy or think Breitling, it is an over-sized blingy Chronograph and by sales that means the SA.

I wouldn't say the Big Mac is the quintessential American food. Clearly it is the "Royale with Cheese!" :poke:

I thought it was KFC's Popcorn Chicken.

Close second. Seriously, if I had to say what is the quintessential American food, it has to be the Burger. What else could it be?

Anybody ever try one of the Bypass burgers at the Heart Attack Grill? They're no doubt absolutely horrible for you, but damn they sound good. Never had a chance to try one myself.

The restaurant was less than three miles from my home. My son and I agreed that one week we would eat absolutely healthy all week and then go in. We never quite accomplished that, and now it's in Vegas, where it probably belongs.

Hands down... I would definitely agree with the majority that the Nav is the quintessential Breitling, without a doubt. However, having a football player-type build (short and wide), the Nav was just too big on my wrist and looked I was wearing a dinner plate! Lol While on the other hand, the Chronomat 41 was too small (and my previously owning a Rolex Sub Date, too). Thus the Chronomat 44 was perfect! The black dial and polished casing/bracelet is a staple and quite versatile, from sunning/swimming in South Beach to evenings out on Ocean Drive. Very happy overall.

In the end, fit and comfort is what matters most. You got the state-of-the-art movement on a very nice-looking watch. Anybody who can refer to their watch as "perfect" got the right watch.

Weighing in on the whole "quintessential" thing, who can say? That's a pretty subjective call. A lot of people think it's the Navitimer, and this would seem to be echoed by the fact it's the one longstanding model Breitling's designers have left pretty much intact, whereas they have gone balls-to-the-wall nuts redesigning or discontinuing everything else. That said, I was first attracted to Breitling by the modern Chronomat, and the pre-Evo models (the 13352, in particular) are still the ones that most say "Breitling" to me. The current version, though, is so different, and so glitzed up, it just doesn't carry the appeal for me that the older versions do. However, as Scott says, what matters is what you like. If you're happy with your Chronomat, that's all that matters.

On a side note, by the time the 01 movement was used in other models (e.g., Navitimer, Transocean), it was no longer called the B01. The Chronomat was the only watch to use the movement when it was the B01, and as such, was the only watch model to feature "B01" in its name.

I see, I guess it was called B01 for "Beta release"

I was attracted to Breitling by a great deal of the models around the mid 00's. Primarily the Chronomat Evo and the Blackbird. I loved the Blackbird big date and my Evo.

But ultimately now I have fallen for the latest round of styling. I don't really have anything made before 2010, and really, really love my Chronomat 01 LE. To me, it's masculine, sporty, powerful, not too blingy but it's still noticible. In-house movement, display back, all brushed on bracelet, black dial with a touch of red. Awesome bezel with brilliant inter rider tabs.

IMO it's a flagship model from Breitling's sporty offerings vs their classic Navtimer line, and IMO, it's perfect.
