How do you get scratches out of brush steel? I know Cape Cod would not be a good idea. Also how could you make brushed steel polished? Would it be worth my time?

Most people just use a scotch-brite pad from the local grocery store. The trick is to go "with the grain" to avoid swirl marks. I've tried this on a few SS bracelets and it does the trick.

I can't find the thread but somebody went overboard on their B and wiped off the brushed look. Wasn't my cup of tea but it's possible.

Yep, scotchbrite green scouring pads work a treat. Just go slow and careful, and (as Ian said) with the grain. If you follow these simple rules you can get superb results.

Scotch brite pads do have a tendancy to leave a slightly irregular grain though. By their very nature some strands are more abarsive than others. I guess if you brush lightly it might help avoid this.

These abrasive rubber blocks are far better and can be cut into any shape and size

That's exactly what you have to do with scotchbrite pads. Lightly, carefully and also vary the point that's in contact with the watch to avoid an uneven grain. I'm sure there are more uniform abrasive pads out there (which is obviously preferable), but I once completely refurbed an Omega SMP, that I'd worn just about everyday for a couple of years, with a scotchbrite pad before I sold it to an AD, and after examining it for a few mins, the AD asked me if I'd ever worn it!
