Hello All,
I am new to this forum as Breitling is usually out of my price range. Normally I dabble in Omega and Tag Heuer, mostly watches from the 80s and 90s in the $500 - $1500 range. I came across this at an estate sale, and with my little knowledge of older watches I decided to take a flyer on it. The crystal is very scratched, it had a Whittenauer band on it, it’s missing both pushers, and the crown stem is broken. I got it home and didn’t have the proper tools to remove the case back, and I didn’t want to damage it in case it’s authentic. I took it to my jeweler, he opened it for me, I took a bunch of pics, and he put it back together. Any info on authenticicty, rarity, value, etc would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve

Very nice find! Breitling AOPA 810. All original from your pics. Rare watch and in restored condition min. 3.5k value. Parts aren’t that hard to get. You’ll just need a good watchmaker to restore it. DO NOT send to Breitling for restoration!

Thanks Wayne! Unfortunately there are no watchmakers in my area. Are there any honest reliable watchmakers I could send it to? How much do you think it would cost to restore it?

Due to the amount of work that it needs I would probably elect to send it to Horological Services but be prepared for a lengthy stay and a bill between $1k-$2k. It will be done right though.

Personally I don't think it's a big job. Replacement pushers and stems are bread and butter to a decent watchmaker. And it needs service and the crystal polished.

Steve - where do you actually live?

Call these guys and ask if they have experience servicing venus 178 movement. Tell them what's wrong and that you want it serviced, clean the case but don't polish, and don't touch the dial or hands. If nothing is majorly wrong you should be looking at $5000. I think the watch is worth it.

Here's a pic I took of mine a few years ago before trading to a buddy. Probably should have kept it.

Beautiful watch! I’m in the Chicago area and bring my vintage watches to MJ in Glenview, which looks like it’s about 3 hours from you. They have done good work for me so far, in fact they have my 810 reverse panda right now. Will probably take 3+ months. Congratulations!
