very carefully pull it off the case , turn 10 degrees every time you pull , pull at a different spot each time , and it will slowly come free from the case

if you're unsure , hesitant or just not sure you want to do this , leave it to someone that has done it before (not necessarily a watchmaker , as he / she may not have done it before either)

Thanks Rene, so no "removal tool" (ie caseback knife) needed?

One of my 806 has a "loose bezel" - the sliderule internal diameter is probably 0.5mm too big for the dial and so the bezel wiggles/rattles a bit, which I find annoying. Is there a spring clip under the bezel that might tighten this up, or am I just stuck with it as is?

You can use a knife to progressively pull up the external part of the bezel : just pull up of 0.5mm then turn 15° then repeat and after one complet turn you would carefully remove the bezel with crystal .
The sliderule is placed on a brass ring rotating on the watchcase . To fix this brassring on the watchcase there is an elastic circle. Normally you do not need to remove it , be careful and do not damage it !

I have removed the bezel like you described. How do you remove the slide rule insert from the bezel?

Thanks in advance,
John

Just pull it out carefully.

Just realised this is an old resurrected thread of mine - my how much things have changed in my own knowledge since that post is 2014. Learnt so much from the great people here on BS willing to share their time and knowledge.

Thanks. I have tried to gentle pull it out but its tight. I have a '56 Navitimer and someone had replaced the slide rule
with a newer one with the red numbers. Could it be tight because of the wrong insert?

Maybe. It's made of metal so will withstand a bit of force. You could also try popping the crystal out of the bezel ring - the crystal is attached from the back, so you could try to press it out from the front.

push the plexi out first (inside to outside) , then push the sliderule ring out (comes out the other way , so if the plexi pushes out to the outside , the sliderule ring pushes out to the inside)
