What watch winder to get?

After picking up my Omega Seamaster, I've now got two automatics, and am wanting to get a single-watch winder for whichever one I'm not using that day. What manufacturers would you guys recommend?

Orbita is regarded the best and most expensive.

I use Wolf Designs. I have an 8 and 3 watch winders in the Viceroy series and they are, so far - 6 to 8 months, reliable and almost infinitely adjustable. They take up little space for multi watch winders.

Wolf also makes individual winders in a modular deisgn so they can be added to and stacked. They can be had at brick and mortar ADs or online ADs for about $100. The Orbita Sparta, depending on model, will run twice to several times that.

Hint - stay away from most of the ones you will find on Amazon - off brands like Garmin and whatever has replaced it, Diplomate I think, exact same units with different names. These are extremely cheap China made and in my experience 1/2 of the ones that show up at the door do not work out of the box or with a couple days.

I go with Orbita Sparta Delux models these days. As Sharkman said, they are on the expensive side (although a long way short of being the most expensive out there), but they offer great performance and finish for the money.

I'll talk to my AD, and see what they have. If they can get it, I think I'll grab one of the modula units from Wolf Designs, so that I can expand as I expand my collection.

I'll chime in and say that Orbita for me is the best bang for buck of the watchwinders. Scatola and Underwood are considered on the high-end if you are into that kind of thing, but for me Orbita does the job for much less. Wolf also makes good winders, but I prefer the look of the Sparta Deluxe models of which i have 3 singles.

I use a brookstone dual winder, with separate motor for each head. You can also buy single use and a quad winder, again with separate motors for each head. The dual winder unit cost $99 from memory and is very good; I've had it for at least 6 months with no issues and most importantly it's quiet. There is a two year warranty also for peace of mind.

I will say though that the settings are not ideal i.e. you can't put it on for 14 hours and then rest for 10, however that problem is easily solved with a light timer, which is cheap and effective.

I also have a single winder brookstone for $99. It has worked well for the past 5 months and is very quiet. Whenever my Navi World is not on my wrist it is in the winder ticking along.

I have seen a lot of posts by people who are happy with their Brookstones and the 4-watch winder seems a relative bargain at $199. I do love the concept and the operation of the Orbita, but the price is so far up there.

Check out ED Marshall. They are a Wolf AD (also orbita) One of my wolf winders is a 3 watch Viceroy and each head is adjustable in units of 50 tpd from 600 to 1200 tpd. The top has storage for straps and bracelets plus a large area where I keep miscellaneous stuff like spare links. It also has a removable travel case.

I've been through several winders. I wouldn't recommend Official Time. Orbita is nice if you have a small number of watches, but they get VERY expensive for the 6+ head winders. I have a 3-head Orbita for my wife's watches and it works nicely.

I ended up with the Wolf modular 4.0 models as sold through Topper:

So far, so good. I like the modular ones because if a single head dies, it's easy to replace:

Just jumping onto this thread instead of creating a new one – I’m think of purchasing a Navitimer and/or a Superocean Heritage and will need to purchase a watch winder as well.

Any suggestions on what ones to purchase? Basically the same as mentioned above? I’m a novice in this area - thanks for your help

Do what dhalem has done - buy a single modular Wolf winder and if you cleection grows you can add more. They attach to each other.
