Not sure if anyone is all that interested in non-Breitlings on here these days, but a couple of new Panerai Submersibles really caught my eye at this year's SIHH -

Firstly the Luminor Submersible 1950 BMG-TECH for starters - BMG standing for Bulk Metallic Glass(!), is apparently a material made from a special glass-like alloy that has extreme corrosion resistance, along with great robustness and resistance to external shocks and magnetic fields. Sounds awesome! :D Unfortunately I've always found 47mm Subs to be far too clumsy on the wrist, but I love the idea of the new material.

There's another Bronzo, but this time with a blue dial - great news for those who missed the previous incarnations........ I guess. (Panerai need to make sure they don't end up making the Bronzo models their equivalent of Breitling and their never-ending DLC models!)

But the one that's really appealing to me is the new PAM 680 which is a 42mm STEEL Submersible with the in-house 3 day auto P.9010 movement. I honestly never thought Panerai would produce a in-house Sub in steel, so this is a real tempter for me.

The last one I think is quite interesting (but not one I'd buy even if I could afford it!) is the LAB-ID Luminor 1950 Carbotech. Fantastic movement that is "guaranteed for 50 years" due to the fact that it doesn't need any lubrication -

I really like the idea of the 42mm Sub but I wonder if they've made it thinner. I know when I've tried on the 392, it just felt awkward on the wrist since it was so thick.

That's my concern as well. Previously the 42mm Luminors have been as thick as the 44mm versions which actually looks a little awkward proportion-wise. Kind of like the 43mm Omega PO GMT - great head on, but way too thick for the diameter. In the pictures these Subs look a little thinner, but it could be just a bit of foreshortening in the photo. Personally I would like to see Panerai roll out the MUCH thinner P.4000 auto with the micro-rotor into the 1950 models.

Very nice watches. The 42 mm sub looks as thick as the 44mm. Could be perspective.

The Mare Nostrum chrono looks really cool but will most likely be very tough to get and I'm sure the prices on the secondary market will be ridiculous.

Although the Panerai brand really doesn't excite me, I have always had a soft spot for Bronze watches, really like this one, Luminor Submersible 1950 3 Days Automatic Bronzo – 47mm (PAM00671),right now the watch coffers are a little low but I would be curious about the price!
