I've been going back and forth on possibly adding a retro chrono this year and I thought for sure it was going to be the Tudor Heritage Chrono in blue. I've looked at this watch over and over again but then I started looking at the Omega Mark II reissue. There are things I like about both watches but I was wondering what some of the thoughts on the forum would be. For reference, here are pics of both watches. The dial shown on the Mark II is the one I would pick over the black dial. The Tudor would always be on the bracelet. I don't own a chrono as of the moment so either one would fit in nicely with my other watches. I can count on one hand how many times I've worn a suit in the past year and spend most of my days in business casual attire for work if that makes a difference.

Have you thought about getting the real thing ? A vintage piece ?

Re issues are just that , and will never get the feel and looks of the original

For a modern reissue you've gone for exactly what I'd have suggested: the Speedmaster Mark II in 'Racing'. Been top of my wish list for a while and I thought of chopping my Seamaster for one, but I'm not good at letting go of watches.

The Tudor is nice and is interesting in the use of grey for the negative space on the dial. I doubt that would like as good in an other colour combo, but it works here. That's just my take on it of course. The Speedie is glorious, with its recessed sub dials and restrained use of colour about the dial, etc. I am a sucker for Speedies so no contest really, but in the final analysis you will make the right decision either way.

As for a reissue, the issue about this are not even on my radar. It all comes down to a price point, features and warrantee for a new watch vis a vintage piece. Besides, looking back on the Speedies from the 70's the current versions are something of an aesthetic improvement on a really great design, in my view, and they are obtainable now. Others will disagree, but that's fine. Each to their own.

I'd let my heart rule my head and settle for a Speedmaster mk2.

Very tough call, I've loved that exact Tudor since I first saw it. Brain says Omega, heart says Tudor. I voted Omega because that particular one screams vintage...to me at least.

My one issue with the Tudor is the empty space on the lower half of the dial. Also, the dial tends to look flat compared to the Mark II with the recessed subs. Also, the lume on the Mark 2 is amazing, especially the tachy. I've got a long time to figure this out, but so far the Omega is getting the nod.

I know something truly vintage will have a lot more character to it, but the newer version of the Mark II has the date which I need for some odd reason. I also like to get things brand new, for some reason every watch I've bought used, I've ended up selling.

I'm not sure why, but I would almost prefer the Tudor witOUT a date. Omega and Tudor have them in the same place, but the thing I like least about the Tudor is the date...perhaps it is more that blank space you mention, Justin.

The case to lug transition on the Omega is really nice too.

Get a 100% real vintage watch and you will definitely appreciate it and with luck it wiil appreciate for you more than a current model which will depreciate the minute you leave the store.

I know movement wise it's hard to argue against the El Primero, but in just not a fan of the subdials on that one.

Omega by a mile IMO. Don't get me wrong - I really like the Tudor, but as I've said before (and someone else mentioned here) there is a hell of a lot of "empty real estate" on the lower half of the dial. The Omega by contrast is spot-on IMO.

I love everything about the omega except the shape of the case, vintage or not it's a deal killer for me. Btw....Why did you get rid of your Breitling Govberg LE?

I've never been a fan of Tudor, I've even purchased a Pelagos. Traded it away in about two weeks of owning it. I would go with the Omega here. The dial layout is very well done and I love the colors.

I gave it to my brother as a wedding present. There are still plenty of them so I could always get another one of those, but I'm really feeling this Omega now.

I had never noticed the empty space on the dial until you had mentioned it previously.
