Will be making a new purchase very soon and am struggling between the Navitimer 01 and the Zenith Big Date Pilot. I thoroughly enjoy the look of both watches, like the in house movements of both, and the sporty/pilot nature of both. Like the history of both, but for different reasons (History of the Navitimer in general; history of the El Primero movement with the Zenith). Similar price point (but the ~$1,500 difference b/w Navi and Big Date is nothing to sneeze at). Any thoughts from the board on the two from a quality and/or service perspective? Anyone owned both and had a preference?

The Zenith El Primero big date movements have recurring issues with the big date mechanism. I know from painful experience.

personally I love the 01 looks... not as emotionally attached to the big date.

I'm vexed. Love zenith watches generally and the El P in particular, but the Navi is more of a favourite with me and would be over the big date.

Not a fan of Zenith so Navi all the way. Plus the Calibre 01 is one of the nicest movements I have ever seen IMO, especially for that price range.

Well, I have recently been shopping around. My choice was the 46mm Navitimer, enjoying it so far.

I'm in a similar boat. I don't have the same emotional attachment to the Big Date, but there are a few items I do really like about (the sapphire case back for starters). Plus the lower price tag is a nice bonus. It's currently a head vs. heart struggle for me. Heart = Navi 01; Head leaning towards Zenith. But that could be swayed in about 0.2 seconds :)

Well see how long it takes to read this......

From experience the warranty service turnaround for big date fixes is around 4 - 5 months.

Each time.

I'd go for the Navi as well. Use to have Zenith in our shop and what Roff said? TRUE!

That's easy. Navi 01 every time over that Zenith.
