Hello all.

I'm turning 30 soon, and wanted to get a new watch to celebrate.
I've had a few ideas along the way, but I'm pretty sure it's between a Navi 01 46mm or a Panerai 422

What would you choose.

Navi 01 46
Love the dial
Size it perfect
5 year warranty
Limited water resistance
Automatic ( con as I will only wear one or two days a week)

Pam00422
Cushion case
Huge crown guard
Hand wind movement
Power reserve
26mm straps (con as it is too big)
Unknown reliability on the P3000 movement

I want this to be a weekend casual watch, as I already have a daily wear and a dress watch.

Thanks.

Out of those two options, I would choose the Navi. I see it as more versatile, and I like the model better overall. Good luck with your decision!

I like the Navi 01 between those 2. With the B01 movement, you'll have a 70 hour power reserve so if you only wear a couple of times a week, you should be fine.

Navi. 01 gets my vote, both on all around looks (plus a date) and versatility. The Panerai is quite large, scratch magnet, and I never liked the cushion case for a comfortable fit.

Happy Birthday!

Both are nice... But Navi gets my vote.

1)Nicer movement and caseback IMO
2)More complications and useful features for yr daily lives(date, chronograph, slide rule), rather than just a plain watch which I believe you already have
3)Something more different from what you already have, therefore adds more variation to yr collection
4)I believe you will see it less often on people's wrist(especially young chaps) as compared to the PAM which is more common among youngsters
5)Ages better aesthetically IMO if it is going to be a long term watch
6)A more legendary watch IMO that is a better choice to celebrate a new milestone in yr life

A straight comparison between the two is easy - Navi. However, you say that you want a weekend casual watch and I'm not sure that the Navi is the best choice for that role of the two, it's certainly capable of being an all rounder but as the 'casual' watch in your rotation the PAM may be a better fit.

Since you ask this question on a Breitling forum, fully knowing that the majority will plead in favor of the Navitimer, you answered your own question I guess :)

If you want my 100% subjective opinion: Navitimer!

Thanks roff.

I am leading twoard the pam. As you all said it, the navi is the better watch, but if I don't wear it there is little sense in me getting it.

I have a 2 year old, and I'm not sure the navi will take the beating, or flooding that comes with little ones.

I will own a navi. But it might not be this year.

Bit of a dilemma. I wouldn't buy either, especially if you have a young family. Try something a bit more robust and cheap, and celebrate your birthday by buying something else completely. How about gold?

If you think that your watch will have frequent contact with water, I would advise against the Navitimer. Although it has a 3 bar waterproof rating, everybody confirms that one needs to keep the watch away from water.
Perhaps buy the watch for your 40th birthday? Heck, I'm 45 and have only recently bought this watch. 8)

Just curious as to your other watches are?

The PAM is definitely a unique look but for me it would depend what the other pieces in your collection are.

Not sure how this ended, but I have the PAM 422 it is a beauty! Absolutely gorgeous.
In house movement. Clean dial. Hand wind with 3 day reserve indicator on the back. Sandwich dial. Legendary Luminor case (Historic 1950 version) Great presence.

On the other hand, the Navitimer is a legend. No collection is complete without it.
Below is an article on the the Top 10 legendary watch models. Not brands. Not most expensive or exclusive, but watch models that changed the game when they were introduced.

And if you read the article - the Navitimer makes the cut and the Panerai Luminor is featured in the "runner up" category!

I would choose the Panerai, as I like to have a watch with good WR. That being said I already have a Navitimer World. And I am a Panerai fan. Good luck with your decision!
