Whats the history behind Porcelain Ceramic Dials and since they don't fade why aren't they utilized more often!

I think they are easy to brake. Generally i am not a white dial guy, but then again... who will say no to those babies:

The Bentley in the middle is with porcelain dial. It looks great in person.. it's something special... but gentle.. i guess.

Bentley dial is not porcelain.

Porcelain was expensive to produce and had high breakage rates before ever being installed. As watches moved from dress pieces stored relatively safely in vest pockets to more functional daily wrist pieces porcelain became less and less practical. At the same time metal treatments and automated processes made other methods of dial production / materials more practical.

Thanks.. my confusion is based on many sites that claims the same thing - stardust/porcelain dial.. i aways wondered how is going to servive daily use, but then... there are ceramic bezels, ceramic bracelets...
