Would this cause you to give up your traditional daily wear mechanical watch for a massively functional and attractive tool e-watch? What brand will be first to consolidate this technology? Could it be Breitling? They would be a natural for this, but are they paying attention? What brand do you think will be the first to this market segment?

Ewatches are the digital watch of today.. nothing really new. Most people I know that wear a watch like a Breitling, Rolex, etc... wear them for the style, what they represent and because they are mechanical. Some people may go Iwatch, but I won't.

When a friend was the first to have an iPhone in our circle he said that it's use would be dictated by the user and that apps would drive how a user interacted with the device. I was sceptical at first as I could not see a use for me.

Many years later I would have admit he was right. I can't get enough of emailing on the run. So it's one horse trick has me hooked. Forget about anything else I use it for, acoustic measurements, checking lighting levels or finding slope angles, etc. I have an ABC watch I use for special purposes when bush walking, climbing or checking the immediate climate.

I would suggest an eWatch will be the same. If it has a use that suits you, then use it, or anything else fir that matter. If it doesn't, then stick to your daily wearer. I would have to be convinced this eWatch 'device' had some real benefits before considering it. As with my smart phone, I still grab a watch every day even though I can tell the time in a hundred other places!

I think that an eWatch is an upgrade of a regular quartz watch with a lot more possibilities and features. Don't think anyone will change his watch from a mechanical to an eWatch. People buying mechanical watches have another interest and look on watches than people buying technologies watches. Ok, it's new and everything new attracts but after a while, when new has become normal, everything will go back as it was because the real interests of people don't change overnight.

To be honest, I can't imagine any quartz/electronic watch, no matter how fancy and all-encompassing, would tempt me away from a good mchanical watch.

I'm one of the few on here it seems who quite fancies getting an Apple Watch, but it would only ever be a novelty for me, and would certainly never take the place of my PROPER watches. A watch for me is much more than a gadget to tell the time.... which is a bizarre statement considering that the watches I get the most from (i.e. mechanical watches) actually don't do very much!

I think this highlights thought what a niche market WIS like us are though. I have no doubt that if a watch as complete as the one you describe is ever made, it would be hugely popular everywhere except with guys like us!

Technologically this sounds like a Casio, but because you add making it look like a higher end piece, this sounds like a Citizen. They made some very nice Campagnola pieces in quartz, though notably they are now going the other way with mechanical pieces. Still, probably the closest company to putting quartz with a higer-end look and having the sophistication in other lines to do what you suggest.

No internet connection, no phone, no camera, no music player, etc. Just massively functional time tool in a nice case.

Considering your original post Desert Hiker, if such a watch became available with all those features, then I think my answer is, no.

I might buy into the idea for a particular purpose but not as a replacement for a mechanical watch. If it gets complicated or is difficult to use ergonomically, then it probably would not be worth my while unless the tool was essential. ️.

None of the aspects on your list are really that essential for me (not even accurate time to the last nano second), so it remains to be seen.
