Hello. I have a chance to pick up a new panerai for my 30th birthday.
I was going to pull the trigger on a new 510, but my AD just took in a trade on a pam00422, and I can grab it for the same cost as the 510.

422 is complete with triple box( inner black box a bit banged up) and warentry dated 4/14

What would you do?

I'm 6ft 2in, and a 7.75in wrist, so 47mm should be ok.

I like the 8 day power reserve, but I like the 1950s case.

Any advise would be good.

I'm not intimate with either piece, as the PAMs I've looked at are the 320, 233 and 351. However, the two pieces you're deciding between appear to be very different aesthetically. If this was going to be my first or second watch in my collection, I'd probably go with the 510 just because it's more versatile. If I already had some daily wearers and wanted something different, then the 422 would be more compelling to me.

That being said, I can't figure out why the 422 costs more than the 510. Both appear to have in-house movements, but the 510 has an 8-day reserve, while the 422 only has a 3-day. Among the PAMs I'm looking at, the 233 with it's 8-day hand would movement carries a significant price premium over the others.

In the end, you need to get the one that speaks to you. Go in and try both of them on for a while. If you really love the 510, don't talk yourself into the 422 just because you can get a good deal on it.

Tricky one as although they are (at first glance) quite similar, they are in fact wildly different.

I'm going to be absolutely no help here at all as there are elements of both those watches that I like! Fortunately all the elements that I like from the 510 and the 422 (and a few others besides) just so happen to be combined in one watch - the PAM 233. So if it was my cash, I'd be holding out for a 233.

(See? Told you I'd be no help on this one!)

Yeah, that 233 is a spendy little bugger. That's why the 320 became my new PAM acquisition target. I'd rather spend 233 money on a JLC.
