I was in meetings today, one of my relatively rare shirt sleeve days in the Summer, so I was wearing my slim, trim Ball Eternity on a strap. I have become pretty fond of the watch itself-- a classic look and nice size at 39.5mm. Then, I looked for a long time at what else was on the left arm.

Almost 26 years in residence, it's not changing or going anywhere. I looked a little longer...

The starkness of the contrast between ring and watch color struck me, then bothered me. I looked around the conference table. Stainless steel watches and white gold wedding bands, every one of them.

I owned cheap two-tones but since moving to nice watches and have worn stainless for years, never really paid that much attention. Okay, a little, and when my wife did tell mea year ago she liked the watches which matched my ring, it did make some sense. Maybe I was just so smitten with the watch that I chose to ignore the contrast. Maybe its just the contrast with the style and all-black look of this particular piece. Maybe I should have been wearing two-tone all along. Maybe I'm wildly overreacting. But it just looked off today.
So, those of you who have a ring upon you, how much does it matter to you relative to your watch?

Well, I understand this as I am currently shopping for wedding rings for my fiancé and I. We've decided to go with platinum. Part if this reason is we already have jewelry that is stainless or white gold and the platinum finish will match. Another reason is that platinum doesn't tarnish like white gold does, so it will stay shinier longer. But my own opinion is that white gold and yellow gold match well. I love the two time Chronomats and Datejusts and Subs and the list goes on. I guess it all comes down to personal preference but personally I see no problem. Nice Ball BTW!

My wedding band is platinum and I never considered anything else and all my watches are SS.

Call me a philistine but I could not give two hoots about the wedding ring matching the watch.
I tend to pay attention to the colour of leather strap going with belt and shoes but I will not go as far as matching the wedding ring to the watch.
I have yellow gold ring and that in no way dictates what watch I wear, which most of the time tend to be Stainless Steel.

My wedding ring is actually three interlinked rings - one red gold, one yellow gold, one white gold. Rarely matches a watch, and I don't care

Wow Scott, can't believe you don't match your accessories, :poke: .

I think it is just a "Sinn" to not match ring and watch:

Image

 , I happened to purchase a different ring a while back and decided to go with something a little different than my original mixed white/yellow gold band. It just happens to go with a lot of my black dial pieces, you know I'm not into polished, shiny things, etc.

Image

The ring is black ceramic with a titanium insert, seems to go well with the tegimented case of the Sinn.

Image

Think you may need to pick up a variety of rings to match your watch collection, :poke: .

(p.s. - I really don't worry about it.)

Um, methinks it's time to have that ring re-sized. Gangrene can't be far behind. I have a hacksaw and can remove it for you. Don't worry about the occasional essential tremor; it will be just fine.

Would prefer weight loss to use of hand or power tools. It actually pops on and off pretty easy.

An easy way to remove a ring is to fish a long piece of thread under the ring from the back and leave about an inch sticking out the back, pull the remaining thread thru and wrap it tightly up to and over the knuckle. Then take the one inch piece sticking out the back and pull it forward against the ring. The ring will move forward over the knuckle as the thread unwraps.

The fact you say it "rarely matches" suggests that sometimes it DOES match a watch you have! Now that I just gotta see!

Since Scott raised the question, I've been sitting here at my workstation..................

Image

.......worrying that I've been a multi-decade fashion faux pas.
My wife (she's also my fashion advisor) assured me that wearing a white gold ring with a gold watch is fine. All is OK as long as I match my watch & bracelet/strap, buckle & belt and shoes with the general color scheme of the clothing. :D
My wife always provides the final approval of my selections.

I can't say I've thought about it much Scott but you do have a point. My ring is white gold so matches most of my watches thankfully. To be honest I'm not too worried about the contrast with my one rose-gold watch; it is what it is.

I'm married. I hardly ever wear my gold band. Only for occasions etc.
The steel and gold mismatch never bothered me, I still don't think I'm ready to wear gold stuff yet !

Don't worry about it Scott. There will always be something else that does not quite match. May as well be your ring as any thing else.

Does not matter what others are wearing either. Guess it just goes to show that your an individual if you buck the trend.

My beloved & I don't wear wedding rings at all. In 37 years of marriage, we never have. We are just not jewellery people and could not care less about symbols or what they represent. There is no particular reason to follow that convention nor to worry about what others think.

If it personally concerns you, then change your wedding ring or the watch. Haha. But that kind of misses the point.
