I was thinking about buying a moonphase watch and I've narrowed down my choices to a Ball or Longines.

Does anyone have any thoughts or opinions on either brand?

Don't know an awful lot about either brand - although I am aware of both.

However, for the exclusivity I would (IMHO) go for the Ball - which models of these would you go for anyway?

Most people who are brand aware (of watches) would recognise Longines as a "luxury" watch maker but few would know (or have heard of) Ball. If you go for Ball then there is a seller with a good reputation on eBay. Let us know what you think.

More opinions to follow no doubt.

My personal preference is Ball as well, the lume is obviously outstanding and the style appeals to me. I came close to buying the new Trainmaster (Midnight Special I think) earlier this year. As Breitling Bloke says it is less well known and that appeals to me as I don't see myself as following the crowd.

BB, I am choosing between the Ball Engineer Master II moonphase and the Longines Master Collection moonPhase.

I don't know much about either company and I don't really care about name brand - I just like watches that look cool. :D

Having looked at both briefly the Ball really appeals.

Have a look here - the close-ups are awesome!

mmmmmmmmmm.....something special about that.

The Longines looks nice too but doesn't have that certain je ne ce quoi

Also if you're not swayed by a name as such that and want a watch which IS cool - that ball looks great...and the lume!

Longines for me is way too classy to be in comparison with Ball.

Moonphase watches are such a cool choice. Both Ball and Longines are reputable brands with their own unique offerings. Ball is known for its robust and accurate timepieces, often inspired by railroad history. On the other hand, Longines is renowned for its elegant and timeless designs. It really comes down to your personal style. If accuracy and durability are your top priorities, Ball might be a great choice. If you're more drawn to classic and sophisticated designs, Longines could be the way to go. Ultimately, go with the one that speaks to your heart and matches your style. Happy watch hunting!
