i'm leaning with sportback this is a nice looking watch, nice enough that i'm thinking about making a trip to the jlc store to check it out (like i needed an excuse). but it is nice enough to go on the very long list of "in consideration" watches.

Here is a post from a JLC expert from another forum for those concidering this watch:

Greetings, Altair,
JLC is BY FAR the best bang-for-the-buck out there in the top-tier. They are every bit as beautiful as Patek or Lange (look at both sides of the Duo Meter), yet keep Haute Horlogerie within grasp.
Regarding the Grande GMT: The dual-sided movement won a watch of the year award in 1994 in the Duo-Face.
Technical achievement:
(1) Having two sets of hands driven by one movement using a reversing gear and slightly off-setting one side (the back) north of the direct center.
(2) An 8-day power reserve which actually lasts for 9.25 and keeps linear time accurately for the full 8 days (where many others either slow down or speed up in the last couple of days);
(3) De-coupling the reverse side's hour hand and moving it in one-hour increments in EITHER direction (way cool!).
(4) Having a gear-ration which allows only 38 turns of the crown (for me) to fully wind the dual-spring movement (when others can take 70 to 100 turns for 8 days.
That's enough for now.
Oh, did I mention that with the Grande GMT you get 2 watches for the price of 1? The front is a business/casual rectangular silver dial with date, while the back is a dressy smaller round black dial (proportionately to the case) with Reserve de Jour? It's my favorite of the Reversos.
-Dean

As stated, they are as close to the super end you can get by paying the least amount AND getting a huge amount of features/tecnical achievements. The GMT can be had for around 8K USD. A phenominal value for the level of whatch you are getting.

What do you think of IWC? I've recently seen photos of the Potuguese Automatic with white dial (IW500107) - very simple (strangely for me) and just look at the back!

Interesting...

I kinda like IWC, never so much that I ever thought of buying one. Stick with that Reverso GMT Ian, it is a great watch. And I mean GREAT!

The Master Compressors are amazing!! Especially the new Master Compressor Extreme W-Alarm. What a watch!!! JLC Also make the most beutifull Minute Repeater I have ever seen, of cource at over 100K it is one of those "if you have to ask..." watches.

By the way Ian I am only sharing my opinion and in no way am I trying to enforce it, I might have worded my post a bit too acceldebt-ish. I am sure you will get the watch that smiles back at you the most, but if you like the Reverso GMT and wondering if it is worth it then it might be wise to concider that it is a piece of "Haute Horolegerie" that has numerous technical firsts that costs about the same as a PAM with a decorated ETA 7750 movement.

I like IWC watches, even though they are generally very plain.

By the way is that picture of the back simply with the case back removed or is it an exhibition back? To be honest, it looks like the back has been removed as there isn't much in the way of surround showing if it's an exhibition back. But if it's NOT a display back, all I can say is what a waste!! Fantastic looking decoration on the movement.
