I have fallen head over heals in love with the PAM 0098 and PAM 00250, since one is a Radiomir and the other a Luminor will the straps be interchangable? Given that one is a 44MM and the other a 42MM?

Maybe Ian would be kind enough to chime in being the resident Panerai expert

I'll 'chime-in', as it's Christmas and I'm full of festive something or other...
Anyway, as to the Radiomir and Luminor Strap question, the answer is no - the Rad's take a larger width strap than the Luminors.

As a general rule the Luminor straps are 24mm and the Radiomir are 26mm.

The strap fixing is also quite different between the two models - for the Luminor there is a screw that passes through the two lugs and through the strap itself. The strap ends are large enough to fit a thin steel tube indside, and the screw or pin fits within this tube.

For the Radiomir, there are two thin steel 'prongs' which attach to the body of the watch (each with a tiny screw) and then turn at right angles to fit into the ends of the strap.

Hope this is of some use !!

By the way, good choices - I have a 250 (and the white faced 251) - love 'em!

Thanks Ian, thats just what I needed to know!

Yeah those are sweet watches, your pics got me going on the road to Panerai obsession, when I do get those two models I believe (hope) that I will be set, they are the nicest of the current Radiomir and Luminor lines to my eyes.

I didn't get Panerais at first, but boy once you slap one on....

By the way Ian since I have your ear, would you know how much a Luminor 8 days 1950 Chrono Monopulsante GMT would retail for would you? I think that might be the nicest watch ever made! Depending on the price it might replace the VC Overseas Chrono as my Grail Watch (if it's around 15 000USD) any higher and it would be classified as another thinking-of-getting-a-second-yacht-rich watch.

The new prices are as follows:

98 - 8600$ or 6500€

250 - 7350$ or 5600€

Assuming your prices are in dollars, the prices are correct - but what year are they? ('J' is 2007, 'I' 2006 etc)

PS. I have a brand new (worn about 1 week) 251 - the same as the 250 but with an ivory dial - which I could be persuaded to part with for a similar price...

If the prices you quoted were for BNIB 'J' series then they're very good indeed. Great choices.

No sweat for the 251 - the 176 I was selling has fallen thru (I think) - the Greek guy who wanted it has buggered me around for three weeks so I think it'll be back on sale from Monday

BNIB from the only AD in the country (SA) I just wish they would get them sooner, he promised me to reserve the watches as soon as he gets them if I put down 10% on each. Aparentely they fly off the shelves, mostley Europians who work here pick a couple on their way home (maybe to resell? make an easy couple of grand!)

Man the Panerai bug got me good.

Well I can only agree there - while I'll not criticise Breitling here, the workmanship and style are quite something else, and certainly worthy of joining your collection I feel. Sadly the IWC Spitfire seems a little 'bare' - too simple for me, and Omegas have never really rung my bell...Jeager-LeCoultre, yes why not, but not really adapted to everyday wearing, at least not for me, and the Hublot Big Bang is just plain ugly to me.(I'll probably end up with one then!!)

Have you ever seen the Big Bang ? Its quite nice!

Panerai are very well made, I must agree.

The Jaeger Memovox is perfect for daily wear! Sporty and has an excellent sounding Alarm function, much better sounding than the PAM 98's alarm.Though my heart lies with the Reverso GMT. Definately getting one of those soon, what a watch!
